I agree with @WarSurfer. The break is in a weird spot where you would expect to see other signs of stress near it, but there is none that I could see. Plus the fact the picture of the other side without the damage shows rust where the tie down most likely scratched the paint.

Your explanation sounds technical comprehensible. If so, the tie down was fixed somewhere in the center between front and rear axle.
Does someone know how they fix those trucks for shipping, -on road truck and -on bulk carrier for sea shipment?

Will pick up on the subject "tie down damage" with the next visit at my Ford dealer. Perhaps this week. Look forward what the engineers from Dearborn will report.
