Pretty ticked off right now- was just planning on pulling trigger on some mods for the raptor but now looks like I may be getting some paint work first...possible even may make sense to go the insurance route.
Left for long road tip this morning during heavy rain storm going on vacation in northern Ontario lakes region- so I had a kayak in the bed w/ tailgate up so I could keep stuff secure & use backup camera w/ the jet ski getting towed behind. Used a tarp tucked down between bed/cab & held snugly in place by 6-8 bungee cords or general tie down rope. Any bungees that came in contact w/ the body were either plastic or rubber coated steel & on top of that I wrapped them in electrical tape to be extra careful-I have used this method on other trucks without issue.
It was down pouring & @ some point the back of the tarp where it was wrapped around kayak became loose & was flapping- actually the new “heavy duty” tarp had one of the rings torn through & a cord let go creating enough slack for all the ropes to rub/shift a bit.
Now, I’m not surprised there’d be some damage given what happened, but this is extreme IMO & def makes me question the use of AL in trucks as well as Fords paint quality.
So take a look @ pics any suggestion on how to go about fixing w/o getting into ins. Claim or busting the bank I’d appreciate.
The bumper/fender flare are probably fairly easy fixes- imagine fender flare is a couple hundred bucks & I bet I could get my bumper sprayed for few hundred too. The bedside? Wtf- all one piece & the bungee cord hook literally burnt through the clear/paint/primer & etched a noticeable amount of material away- this is after maybe 3-400 miles tops, if I kept driving the whole way without checking it I’d probably have a pinky sized hole- no joke.
Fender flare damage was nylon/cotton blend rubbing- ya kidding me? Wore down sections in it-Cheap. If it can’t handle a bungee cord rubbing hows it hold up against brush!?!?
Bumper damage also solely from cord/rope rubbing
Bedside damage only part caused by actual hook.
All the contractors out there buying AL body work trucks - especially the HD ones that’ll be putting in real work, they’re going to be in for some real issues. I don’t see how it’s possible for an actual work truck to stand up...these AL beds are def not gonna last if you actually use em as intended- maybe why GM offers carbon fiber now???
Sucks overall.
