Electronics Update: Installed a BlackVue Camera with Battery System.
Camera: BlackVue DR750X-3CH Plus
Battery & Expansion Battery - This should give about 36h of runtime.
Mount: Aluminum Dashcam Mount for BlackVue
33' Rear Camera Cable
I wasn't really looking forward to this install for some reason and have had the parts for a while but honestly, it was really simple and I should have done it sooner.
Where I live and what I use the truck for, a camera was necessary. A front camera is a must-have, adding the interior and rear seemed worthwhile. I wanted the battery pack because we leave the trucks parked for extended periods but at home, the woods, the track, etc.
I'm not currently doing the cloud setup because I just haven't seen these work too well and this is just in case of an incident. I do have a VZW hotspot though so that might change if I can get it to work reliably without killing battery capacity nor eating a large monthly data bill for a nice to have.
Install:
Took about an hour to wire, snake, and connect everything up. Hardwired, soldered, etc. Used fuse 36 for the ACC. Added another hour to get the cameras perfectly aligned, zip tied, and setup using their software.
Overall, was pleasantly surprised with how simple it was. Ordered a longer rear camera cable as the provided one (16’) is not long enough to mount the camera in the canopy.
Seems like a good system.
