I started this thread a while back and now I would like to give a quick update. I realize many people do not care about government overreach, but I also know many people that do care. When I was recently in Ukraine, I discovered Tesla remotely shut down every Tulsa in the country. It depends on what you believe as to the reason, but wrap your mind around the fact that it can be done. I am not talking about a subscription service like OnStar. Then think about the geopolitical environment in the world today. I think we live in scary times, but now read this;

You can keep your techy mess!!

I don't use back up cameras, GPS, or none of that fancy stuff...

Well maybe lane assist and distance control after the skrip club...

Just for clarification, today is the first day in a long time I revisited this thread. AGAIN It is just a PSA, nothing more. I believe knowledge is power and it is best to know, than not know.
You are right on target. Just read the Ford pass app agreement. You give Ford the right to collect and share what ever data they can collect with whom ever they want. I can’t use my app because I won’t agree. I bet it don’t stop them.
I had an employee return from Iraq and said they tracked the rag heads by using the trucks computer. He bought a new vehicle and removed the satellite components while on shift so they could not track him.
You’re right, they track every move we make. They don’t care we know because they know most don’t have the tech knowledge to stop it. Our intelligence agencies have been turned on the American people. When/if they get the guns, we are socialist country overnight.

I know and respect that there is a lot of sarcasm on this thread and I am not an extremist by any meaning of the word. That said, a person normally does not realize the freedoms they have until the freedoms are gone. The vast majority of people on this thread did not know they are being videoed inside their truck. If a person doesn’t wear a seatbelt, a buzzer activates, if a driver drifts out of the lane, the steering wheel vibrates and when the GPS is programmed to go to a specific location, it warns you to obey all laws. I wonder why when the ignition is turned on, there isn’t a warning that you are being videoed? The stated purpose is to record the 30 seconds before impact, but in the wrong hands, it could be devastating. Also I know for a fact that the 30 second loop can be transmitted to a monitor….LIVE. Nobody in forum land is perfect all the time. Yes, even a 5 year old knows they are tracked by their iPhone. However a 5 year old does not know they can turn the phone off, remove the SIM and still be tracked. A 5 year old also does not know they can wrap the iPhone with aluminum foil to prevent tracking. I bet the vast majority of forum readers did not know the audio command/Bluetooth system inside 2017 and newer vehicles can be remotely programmed to stay on and covertly broadcast, via cell connection. The GPS can also be remotely altered to transmit the vehicles live location. This is not unique to Ford, I do not know about BMW’s and the like, but domestic manufacturers are a given. All of the above in the wrong hands….CCP, private investigator, pissed off neighbor, mad ex wife, or a 16 year old with a computer, may be life changing. I think of it like the interior of my house, it is my private area and nobody’s business. I also believe that the world is changing quickly and China is a formable foe. Again, this is just a PSA and knowledge never hurt anyone!

The video recording is not for the owner/driver’s benefit, its’ to benefit Ford. Once that information is in 3rd party hands, there’s no constitutional provision at play and thus no protection against unreasonable search and seizure, because it’s been shared, whether voluntary or not.

That means your insurance company can obtain it.

and let’s just red team this for a minute, shall we?

let’s say you’re on your way to the hospital, moving at a brisk, but not stupid pace. We’ll say, just barely quicker than the pace of traffic. Suddenly, the road is blocked, and you know there’s only a couple diversion points to get to the hospital, so, you hop the center island - Raptor Privilege, u-turn and WFO to head back to the next turn. While you’re WFO and through no fault of your own, an inattentive, cell yakking driver t-bones you about a quarter mile from where you u-turned.

Determining who is at fault will be pricey. But don’t worry, even if you don’t have a camera, the truck’s EDR will definitely be happy to snitch on you and it preserves a portion of parameters prior to a crash.

A portion of EDR data or video is like a sound byte in that without context, it can tend to convey something completely devoid of context and reason.
