better door detent location mod

Sorry but this took too long. Bought mine today for $96.80 w/ tax

I needed to get this solved fast b/c the other weekend the f-ing WIND blew my door open and cause it glided from 1st to Last detent position it like smacked open. I could only imagine the horror I'd face if my door did that to another vehicle b/c I'd forever live in fear of their retribution against my truck. Call it carelessness but when you expect to lightly "close" the door but not shut it and then the wind f-ing gusts like no other, you sort of freak out.

I ordered and have installed mine as well. Great little mod. Easier than I expected to install, but had to have my wife reach around......... up and under the dash to get to that silly access plate. On my '13 I didn't have to do anything inside the door panel at all.

Mod Pictures

So, I decided to mod the unit myself. Took a few pics to document it.

First pic shows the piece marked with tape at location I wanted to cut. I decided to use a band saw to nibble out the plastic. It really could be done numerous ways.

Second and third pics show the piece roughed out.

Forgot to take a pic of the finished piece before re-installing it.

Forth and fifth show the first and second detent stops. I took a full open shot, but the forum wouldn't let me attach more than five pics.

The plastic isn't that hard and it's easily cut/shaped to what you want. A few small files and some fine sandpaper worked great at finishing it.

One thing I noticed the full close and full open positions are firmer (detent is deeper) than the first stop. The second stop I cut the same depth as the first. Wish I had made it deeper to create better holding power. Might pop it out and make it a bit deeper.

It was a really easy mod, but for $100 might be easier to just buy a set of these. Guess it comes down to how much is your time worth and do you enjoy doing things like this yourself. I do!

The stops are pretty easy to install. One critical tip is to tie a string to the end of the old one when you remove it. This makes guiding the new stop in super easy. I would have finished in 20 minutes if I hadn't dropped one of the rubber plugs down into the space between the inner and outer sheet metal. Took me another 20 min to remove the fuse block and fish it out. Don't let that rubber plug fall inside the hole.[/QUOTE]

X2 the string is a must do not attempt without it! I also dropped the rubber plug into the opening on the driver side but I could get it out. I will have to leave it there and buy another. On the driver side I just peeled a corner of the cover just enough to get the part through it.
