With a 1500 budget, he’s not quite there, but everyone not having a Sony to mod is omitting - he doesn’t need to do everything all at once until he gets to the point where he needs to swap the main amp.

IMO, I’d decide on the sub and enclosure, do the physical install, run the battery home runs needed, run this in first. If he wants the behind the seat sub, again the MTI is under the budget, a solid 450w, or if he wants to go bigger, he can get into the “ish” part of the budget.

Sub can be run on speaker level input until the cut over. Bass will still roll off, but there’s a lot more of it.

Save money and add insulation and speakers next. No real benefit in this stage, but, lessens the time spent on the last stage:

amp/signal processor.

I did these in my 2017 F150 and I saw a slight improvement. Much cleaner sound and would not distort at high volumes. I also did sound deadening on the doors. I powered them with the stock amp. It's budget friendly and I thought it was well worth it. I now have a full blown system in my Raptor. Hope it helps.

Good luck OP, a lot of people in the same boat including myself. If you're a do it right the first time guy then get prepared to blow your budget. At least that's what I have come to understand researching on here...

I’m in the same boat as OP too. It’s been 20+ years since I’ve done aftermarket audio systems. My Harmon kardon system sounds great in my BMW X6 and honestly I thought the B&O system is pretty decent. The little tweaks are what I’m looking to do like the sound deadening/polyfill, maybe speaker upgrade but I’m not sure I want to go down the route of the processor and new amp yet.

Only body and odor system I’ve really spent any time with was in a ’20 Exploder ST. while it sounded ok, and definitely better than the stock Raptor the mixing still wasn’t great. It was adequately loud, but I doubt it was “windows down” loud enough. My wife’s Lincoln Revel trounces the B&O handily. For a stock system, the mixing is damn good, the bass is surprising for what it has. It’s not shaking the mirrors deep, but fills the cabin nicely.
It’s East Coast windows down loud enough, but not quite loud enough for windows down at Texas speeds. Close, but not quite enough oomph.

Top line Alpine 5 channel amp, Focal speakers all around, a JL Audio sub, damping material and the requisite electronic modules did it for me. Concert hall sound for around $3000 plus a little. Still use the factory head unit but you could replace that too for even better results.
