87 or 93?

They come preloaded. Bought a similar deal a while back from John and Bill over at Stage 3, only I got lifetime tunes - not a huge difference since all it really is is unlimited revisions and most tuners do this regardless.

Somewhat hard to determine if running a higher octane is harmful for vehicles that are not designed for it because just searching on the Internet results in mixed articles on the subject.

But what we can tell you is the Raptor is designed for 93 and will take advantage of the increased octane. Even Ford's marketing of 411hp is actually with Premium fuel and in small print the Raptor gets 401hp with 87. Personally I run 87 the majority of the time, it is hard for me to justify a 90¢ difference for Premium when I can't really tell in the butt dyno even though I have different tunes to choose from. I am satisfied with what 87 provides.

yeah, especially when gas is $1.90 a gallon here for 87. i better go fill er up

Having more than one tune for different octane levels is silly. These trucks have knock sensors and Wide band sensors which can alter your timing and fueling according to the fuel you run. One tune, just like Ford gives you is all you need. Otherwise its a gimmick. We leave all learning capabilities of the factory PCM on so incase you get a bad batch of fuel the truck can protect itself. If you have a 93 octane tune and learning adaptive is turned off so your truck can't retard timing well you could do some serious damage. The proper way to tune is to leave the Knock sensors and learning adaptive strategies ON. That way whether you run 87,89,91,93,94 octane the truck will respond safely and accordingly.

Now speaking in terms of a Supercharged vehicle you only have the option of 91 or 93 octane. The Knock sensor level of sensitivity needs to be lowered because the Whine from a Supercharger can induce the knock sensors to retard timing unnecessarily. Also Loud exhaust systems can do the same. We still leave learning adaptive on so the truck can adapt to other variables the fueling and timing tables work from. Such as Temperature, Fuel mixture, Load, etc...

And FYI fuel is around $2.20 here in NJ for 87 and about $2.60 for 93 octane, Love watching it drop lower and lower!
