lol ding ding ding! You'll find most people in here don't work at all in a field that can remotely relate to marketing, engineering, etc. They'll pound their chest...errr...keyboard saying everything otherwise, but it still shows through lol.
You're right on the money. If the driver was flogging the living shit out of it where it came back at the end of the race looking like it's a full insurance write off with smashed front end, smashed doors, smashed bedsides, that would get a pretty ****** rep by the public eye, checkout this Raptor, it was destroyed in an offroad race, must not be very capable.....vs finishing it in 1 piece, and looking as good as it started by the end. May not impress the FRF peanut gallery, but the rest of the public eye, it looks good.
Gotta love the "damned if you do, damned if you don't" too, Ford enters a relatively stock truck in this race, it gets tore up on FRF because it's not full blown race or full blown stock. And how dare they call a truck that they're racing in a race, a race truck lol.
Well Dan, of they don't do it, I know some here in FRF will have a blast finding the weak spots....I thought they built the truck(s), both Gens, specifically for customers like the FRF peanut gallery? I'd like to see something "impressive" to pull on the strings of my wallet, which I haven't. We're all comrades at heart here so not hating on ur opinion. It just irritates me Ford put a nice gloss on a product that clearly had previous specific issues without even attempting to fix those, then added more potential problematic things (new motor, tranny, etc.). Let's beat the doors off the new model and see how long it'll last. Show me it's better.

Have you ever seen the Ford Racing catalog? Ford knows there's a big aftermarket they didn't get to tap into with the gen 1 Raptors. I'd say there's a pretty good chance they're going to capitalize on that with the Gen 2 a little bit, and could very well offer these exact springs and shocks through Ford Racing as an upgrade for those 10%, because heck they're already tested/proven on their truck in these races. Yes there's a lot of other aftermarket options to go against, but the Ford Racing advantage is you can get them done under warranty.

Translation = he said something I like that supports my rosy view of the gen 2
The FRF peanut gallery is a level of enthusiasts that's beyond the stereotypical Raptor owner that buys the truck, and doesn't really feel the need to mod it, beyond a couple simple bolt on's if anything. Ford didn't gear the gen 2 to be the turn key offroad race truck that some FRF members may like to buy, but afterall, isn't half the fun of having a vehicle you're really into, the modding and wrenching and making it your own and improving upon it? They'll never be able to build 1 truck to appease everyone. They built one that meets the needs and wants of the majority of the potential raptor owner's market, and the rest can still wrench, tweak, upgrade as they see fit.
The gen 1 did have specific issues, and they did address a lot of them. Bent frame fiasco from people driving a factory offroad truck like a long travel trophy truck....the raptor no longer has the exact same frame as every other f150, it's an improved strength frame specifically for the Raptor. Offroading in various conditions but very limited selections in the truck.....the raptor now has more offroad programs so it's better suited right out of the factory in bone stock form for more conditions. The gen 1 was heavy....the new raptor is lighter and packing more power. The gen 1 was extremely ****** on gas.....the new 10 speed and start/stop will make it less ****** (not stellar, not a prius, but less ******, more money in your pocket for more mods). A frequent upgrade guys did was 3.0 shocks since the gen 1 had 2.5's.....the new raptor comes stock with 3.0's now.
So tell me again how they addressed absolutely nothing out of the gen 1 to fix/improve upon for the gen 2? I know some aren't fans of how they made those changes with a V6, or a 10 speed, or start stop, etc., but it doesn't change the fact that they did address many of those things to improve upon the truck, whether you personally like those improvements or not.
Yes some new changes may present new problems, but it's part of the risk, and that's why they're flogging and testing the truck. If they stayed so risk adverse all these years and afraid to make technological changes just because it may pose new problems, you'd never be driving a 400+ hp fuel injected mod motor with 6-10 gears and even forced induction. You'd still be driving a gas sucking underpowered **** of a pushrod motor with 3 gears and a temperamental ****** carb. Can't always be afraid of progress, it often brings more good than bad.
"rosy" view......how about just a view? I do own a Gen 1 btw, and absolutely love the truck, I did buy one afterall. Just because I also like one generation of the truck, doesn't mean I need to be polar opposite on the other generation of the truck.
Rawr my name is reptar, no one listens to me rawr, why does no one listen to me rawr
rawr, I can't comprehend possibly liking both generations of the raptor, rawr, can't comprehend, rawr, how could they both have advantages and disadvantages not just just 1 pure shit and 1 pure awesome, rawr, my intellectual capacity has been exceeded, rawr
