I've had mine in for 2-1/2 years and it's never fallen down once. When you drill the sides to bolt it together you don't want to make it the width of the bed, you want to make it like 1/4" wider than the bed. It makes it a PITA to fit it down between the rails because you can't just slide it straight down since it's now wider than the rails. You have to slide it in from an angle while folded in the closed position so the sides can bend slightly and twist it in just right, but once it's in, the spring pressure from it being "clamped" in place from the outward force holds it in perfectly.

I read review of it falling in before I bought mine so I set the width a little wider like that and it's worked perfectly. What I was going to do if that didn't work was just drill a hole in each rail and stick a pin down through it so it wouldn't be able to fall off either, but I never had to get to that point.

Love the functionality of it, plenty of times over the years I've had to fold it up to fit more crap in the bed in a crunch.

Sorry to say this Reptar, because I really like some of your informative posts, but as an admitted "street queen" your opinion about the BakBox really doesn't support it's offroad capabilities. After my first offroad event with a BakBox in my truck bed, I could never endorse it for any other purpose than daily driver duty. As designed, it will provide the average F150 owner plenty of storage and versatility, but will disappoint even the casual offroader.

Farfromstock is right. As good as I think some of the covers are from Bak, and I love my roll-x, the bakbox is POS. It can take absolutely no jarring, and it is just not made very well. It is disappointing for sure. It also eats up bed space. I have contemplated tearing mine out about 10 times in the last year, but I had a buddy of mine bolt it in with about 20 long screws, so it wont budge now.

You notice it is not in my signature where all my mods go because I cannot endorse it!!

Count me as another who is disappointed with the BAK Box. I love the Roll-X. I fabricated some stronger clamp parts and changed to 10/32 bolts with nyl-lock nuts. So far so good. I only keep a some tow supplies and jumper cables in mine. Any more than 50 lbs and I'm sure it would collapse.

I would not recommend it, I'd rate it 1 star for Raptors owners.

They must have changed it. Mine did not require drilling, was pre-drilled, and is expanded as wide as it will go. Also, the bottom of the end pieces flare out with any kind of weight in it which can't help with the falling.

The metal ends are predrilled, but the back panel is not. I forget if it's self tappers or what, but I assembled it so it was a hair wider then the bed, so it has a tension force pushing outwards at all times and never had an issue.

Well since the OP was about the bakbox falling off in regular driving and not even offroading, I'd say my opinion on the bakbox does count for the 2 cents its worth. And just because I tout my truck as a "street queen" doesn't mean I've never had some fun with it. I've had fun with it putting the full suspension travel to work, hitting whooptie dos or whatever the hell their called shaking everything around, doing donuts in the snow, power sliding through the dirt, never had the bakbox fall out a single time in 29k miles, but I still call it a street queen since it's daily driven on the street, and only fooled around offroad maybe a handful of times a year for about 5-10 mins at a time. Doesn't mean the bakbox would last on a raptor run, I think it'd be unrealistic to expect that, but depending how it's installed it'll definitely hold up to some jarring around, and most certainly DD use.

You are not that far from Havoc. Registration is still on until the end of the month. Sign up and have some fun for more than 10 minutes. Leave the bakbox on to test. I can't even keep my Roll-X on.

This thread reminds me I should find mine and sell it. Got frustrated with it and put it in a corner and forgot it. Maybe I should sell it and the F1 while I'm at it.

If I were doing an entire day of offroading, I'd verly likely take it out in advance, and strap everything in the truck down. But won't be at Havoc. I'd love to, but the Raptor isn't my toy, I'd rather go drag racing in my 9 second harley truck and unfortunately the pockets are only so deep and free time is only so often, so it's either Raptor offroading events or HD truck drag racing events....I'll take the drag racing lol

Had mine in for six months; no issues. Trick is in the assembly; leave bolts loose until you actually install it in the bed. Have one person hold it and then tighten the side bolts. Mine is pretty loaded and I drive lease roads daily in the west Texas oil fields.

If you assemble it nice and square it most likely won't reach the railed good enough to hook. Leave the bolts loose and it'll reach the sides, then tighten it up.
