Baja Designs OnX6 Arc Install Woes... Help?

Finally, someone with some real answers.... LOL

I bought the light bar from ADD as an add-on for my bumper, so they weren't very much help, although I did tell them I wanted to wire this light into my up-fitter switches, and they sent me this harness anyway...

As for Baja Designs? They stopped all communication because they couldn't figure it out either and essentially couldn't tell me how to hook this light up via the up-fitter switches... "Scientists of Lighting" my ass, what a joke, they should be embarrassed.

So I appreciate your help here. I have a couple questions...

1. There is a relay of some sort built into this harness I got, is that not good enough to do what you are suggesting above?

2. Would you be willing to build me this harness and perhaps supply a simple diagram? I would be willing to pay whatever you need for your time and materials. At this point I just want to get this pile of money hooked up and working...

3. If you would be willing to build this harness for me, I would also love to have the mode switching hooked up to a up-fitter switch as well. The BD instructions read, to dim the light toggle the switch once, to go into strobe mode you have to toggle the switch 3 times. It would be awesome to have this feature on an up-fitter switch.

Now you know who to go to next time ya need some BD lights. We know their lights PRETTY well to the point where I stock most of their products including replacement parts.

The harness you got is just a harness, no relays at all. It's used to work with another relay. Light bars these days come with wiring harnesses but they are a joke. Everybody who's anybody throws them out. So that's why most Baja Designs products don't. They know you'll be doing your own, plus it's a waste of $$ to give away those cheap harnesses only to have them throw out.

Doing it yourself will get you exactly what you need for a harness.

We're not really in the business of custom harnesses, no money in it. I'd have to charge you a lot of money for my time. Your best bet is to find a GOOD local shop that specializes in off-road trucks and ask them to get you set up.

Just let the shop you find know how the BD light works.

The green wire is your dimmer toggle and that gets momentary negative/ground.

They'll want to wire in a relay to 1 of your upfitters to send positive voltage to the white wire, to turn the light on.

They'll want to wire in another upfitter to a relay but the positive upfitter trigger will need to toggle the relay so that you are turning the negative/ground on (that goes to the green wire).

So if you wanted to go into strobe, you'd flip your upfitter off/on 3 times (the upfitters are not momentary is why).

There was a lot of back and forth, as I was trying to explain to them that I wanted to run this light via my up-fitter switches. They did not have the right answers and could not tell me how to install it correctly. In fact they gave me completely wrong info/advice. Perhaps, you guys should build a specific harness for high amperage lights for the GEN2 Raptor up-fitters so that this isn't an issue...

I'm going to bring this up to the team and mention the idea of a Raptor Specific Wiring Harness for the higher amp OnX6 bars. There are quite a few customers running the same setup.

As I said in my PM we're not in the harness making business but here's what you'll want to put it together

-You can use the existing harness you bought, as that'll save you from having to buy a weatherpack crimper and connectors (about $25 savings right there).

So basically take that harness and follow the 3 wires coming out of the weatherpack connector... cut it as far back as you can to give yourself some slack.

12gauge should suffice since you're not going far.

When he shows hte diagram at 2:06 your upfitter is what is going to 86 (the switch) which is positive voltage. 85 goes to ground (so the relay can be powered). 30 goes to your battery terminal (with a fuse) and 87 will go to the white wire on your OnX6 Bar

Now when you turn your upfitter on, you are sending power to #86 which trips the relay, and sends power to the light bar (the black wire/ground, on your light bar will go to your vehicle chasis).

So now what about the dimming wire right?

same idea basically

86 goes to the upfitter
85 goes to the ground same as before

now the difference. Instead of wiring 30 to the battery (+) your going to put it on the ground instead.
And instead of having 87 to go the light bars power side (white) you're going to the light bars dimmer wire, green.

So basically when you activate the upfitter it sends voltage to the 86 terminal which trips the relay. 30 will then pass the GROUND to 87, which is what you want on the green wire.


Make sense? If you've never wired up electronics in a vehicle before it can be confusing, that's why I always recommend have a shop do it for you.

If you do not know how to wire up aftermarket lights do yourself a favor and spare yourself the headache and hire a shop or someone who does.

You spent thousands on a bumper and the best high quality light available, spend the money on getting it installed correctly and stop trying to do it yourself. I personally have a friend who does mine and I learn from helping him. If I didn’t have him, then I would pay someone. There is no shame in admitting you do not know how to do something but you are on here blaming vendors and people because you do not understand how this works, embarrassing.

Actually, you're wrong sir. I'm on here blaming the vendors because they couldn't tell me exactly what 4x4LEDLights.com just explained. In-fact I was given wrong/contradictory information initially which is what lead to starting this thread... A proper wiring diagram/plan was what I was after, and both vendors I dealt with couldn't provide it. So how am I out of line? You buy professional products from professional suppliers, they should be able to provide you with the right advice on how to install said products...

Automobile wiring is DC wiring basics regardless who’s brand of lights. Stop trying to be cheap and hire someone. It will save you the headache then look at what they did and learn from it.

Do it yourself and invest in an fire extinguisher to carry with the truck. You will thank me later.
