My backup camera on my 2012 Gen 1 doesn't always work. Some times I get a warning on the screen saying not receiving signal from camera. Sometimes it works sometimes not.

Any ideas?

My truck does the same thing, my issue is one of the wires to the camera at the rear of the bed above the spare rubbed through some how. It’s right at the connector so kind of a pita to fix.

It might be as simple as dust/dirt contamination in the electrical connector at the tailgate. It won't hurt to eliminate that possibility by pulling the connector apart and blowing both sides out with compressed air. While you're there, inspect the electrical contacts for corrosion and burnish them if there is any.

I have a 2011 and that happened to me after chasing around wires I just replaced the back up camera and works better than ever. A little pricey but now it works every time in reverse

Yeah a lot of these threads/issues that pop up with the cameras it seems like alot of them end up replacing the cameras and that fix’s their issue
