Be careful with what? It aint rocket science!

If the stock sub is dual 4 ohm (ill check this weekend), its likely wired series to an 8 ohm load at the amp. If thats the case, you can drop from 8 ohms to 4 ohms rather easily and get additional power output from the amp. While decreased ohm loads are harder on equipment, I would be shocked if a 4 ohm load is too much for the amp to handle. Once you get down to 2 ohm, 1 ohm, etc, things get a little sketchy sometimes.

Im willing to bet a deadened box, with polyfill, and a higher quality, low RMS sub designed for small sealed enclosures will do wonders at 4 ohms on the stock amp.

I'm glad it's easy for you, but some folks have tried to plug-and-play with the B&O like folks did for the Sony, and it doesn't work well...distortion, chuffing, etc. I'm just trying to help folks not make a mistake...if you can tell them how to do it correctly, by all means do.

This thread has some discussion on the topic of just trying to upgrade the sub itself:

And this thread from an Audi site talks about the B&O amp/wiring and the DVC sub used there:

Has anyone tried to mount the JL 13TW5v2 in the stock box?

Haha, a 13tw5 will never fit in the stock enclosure! The factory sub is only 8 inches in diameter. 12” is the largest that Mobile Toys has been able to fit in their custom behind seat box. Enclosure volume becomes an issue. There’s really not enough room back back there for even a 12 before you run out of airspace.

I have two 4 day weekends coming up and the wife and I plan on staying home. I'll try to make some time for this little project and will report back.

Never say never...
For those of you that are looking for something bigger. Mobile Toys is now building single sub boxes for the JL Audio 13TW5v2-2. Mine is arriving this week!

Well yes, in an aftermarket box, a 13tw5 will fit. But OP was talking about utilizing the oem b&o enclosure which is significantly smaller than the .8 cu ft needed for the tw5.

Yes the tw5 is a 13" driver but its not nearly as loud as a tw3 nor does not have the low end extension of a tw3. Size is not everything. In fact:

A 12tw3 has a 3.5" deep chassis and 15.2mm of linear xmax.

A 13tw5 has a 2.625" deep chassis and only 11mm of linear xmax.

A tw5 is designed to fit extra shallow applications. It costs more because it is a more compact package. But in no way is it a better driver.

You would only run a tw5 if you didn't have the depth for a tw3. In the case of a behind the seat box, a 12tw3 would be the correct driver for the application because you have 3.5" of depth available to you.

You mean like if you wanted to put the box behind the seat without interfering with the seat like the tw3 does?
