You must sell your cars often or they don't salt the roads like they do here.I've been "sacrificing" nice paid for cars and trucks to east coast winters for about 5 decades and have never had an issue with rust doing damage to anything. It's all a money grab for the Let me worry about this now crowd.
Even fighting the rust- on my personal vehicles over only 3 decades, I've seen big holes in doors, floors, rockers, fenders, tailgates and hoods. I've had the core support rust out so bad the trans cooler mounted to it was only being held by the hoses, flopping up against the radiator.
I've replaced brake lines numerous times due to rust. Finelines sells nice SS replacements.
Even just rain freezing ovrenight on the vehicle is bad for it. It gets into the cracks and expands them, allowing the salt brine to get down in and rust the seam. Which then opens up more from the rust jacking, and it keeps going.
