I’m definitely intrigued by the Uniden R7, but I’ll wait until they’ve actually implemented the GPS-based auto lockouts. I currently have that feature with my V1 by using the Bluetooth integration with the V1Driver app on my iPhone. I would hate to revert back to going without it for a feature that is “coming soon”, but not yet implemented on the R7.

I’m also curious to see what happens with Radenso since they stole Uniden’s main lead for radar detector development. Granted, it’ll probably be years before that hire materializes into new products on the market.

Appreciate the replies. Knew cool Raptor owners would be early adopters of the R7. Managed to download the new firmware and it’s better.

I had the V1 for years and know a chatty detector well. Ty.

Radar detector is so 80's my friends. I agree with
I never use a radar detector, but have recently become reliant on WAZE. It does a very nice job of calling out the police, even on long stretches of highway.

WAZE is the way to go. The modern COPs has not just radars/lasers/etc, the most deadly weapon is a bunch of HD camera. They can rewind and review. So you'd better be playing nice. The moment your radar detector goes off, you are already in the COP's line of sight. Waze is a network drivers, constantly reporting their sightings to warn others. It is the modern COP fighter...

Those are good points, but a RD is not "so 80's"... I commute on an interstate here in Colorado where people regularly go 10-15 over. I run both Waze and a R3. I regularly come across an officer running radar that isn't marked on Waze. Waze is only as good as other drivers put the data into it... I'm not going to trust relying completely on Waze when I can be proactive for a reasonable price.

ETA: Your comment about being line of sight when it goes off is inaccurate. Modern RD's are reaching distances that are incredible. It will often go off minutes before coming up on a radar car.

Spot on reply. Best protection is both Waze and a detector. The new detectors, such as the R3 and 7 alert over 2500 feet away from the radar source. Yes, you can get caught with instant on. Nothing is foolproof.

My experience with Waze here in the northeast is there are a lot Wazers and the warnings posted are pretty good. In 2017 we drove 6,000 miles round trip to Utah. Not nearly as many Wazers to post alerts and the detector was worth its weight in gold. Same in Canada, Nova Scotia in particular, and Montreal, very few postings on Waze. And if you are out west with no cell service, Waze is almost useless. Reports cannot be posted.

Another one here with a R7, no issues thus far everything is working well, I was able to grab the update and have a copy if you would like MDJAK.

agree with everyone here. these are all tools and using all you have available only makes sense. A truly hardcore police officer will get ya, well hidden and instant on. If they get me I would tell them " well played sir, you were nicely camo'ed!" most of the time I find that most cops, like most people go for the easy hit, so radar on looking for the most offensive or easy fish.

802avalanche you can make it work, if you have a file you can knock down the tabs at the back of the mount to make it work, the mount needs to be slightly massaged open as well, you will see what I mean when you get it. I just filed mine down and hit the area with flat black spray paint. the same mirror tap power will also work, just bear in mind that it is on the right side now instead of the left side.
