My rear wheel wells are line-x'ed in premium. They always look brand spanking new even almost 2 years later.

My side steps look horrible. Faded light gray, dirt likes to get in the fine texture, the only way I get them looking black again is some 303 or vinylex which makes them slippery. Debating on getting them line-x premium coated. Curious if anyone coated on top of the factory coating with how it turned out, and rough price range.

My Line-X dealer said they would have to strip all the factory coating off first so it wouldn't be too thick.

does the thickness really matter? It doesn't butt up adjacent to anything.

I have had great success using Westley's "Black Wall" Cleaner to get them black again. Spray a ton on the steps when they're dry and scrub with a stiff long bristled brush. Mist with water, scrub again. Rinse, dry, repeat.

Obviously if they are actually faded that won't do much but I have found that a lot of the time the grey comes off and it's only superficial. It's worth a shot before dropping the $$ on Line-X.

My dealer said the same thing. Didnt know if the Line-x would bond to the factory coating and would have to strip it.

Gave me a quote of $600, so i said F it

I've tried this, but it doesn't take long for them to fade again. I have some damage from Havoc and have been thinking about Line-X ing them, along with the rear bumper.

I'll give that a shot, I have a bottle of that left that I never use for anything, but still want something that's a permanent fix. my line-x rear wheel wells just get sprayed down and look brand new, never apply anything to them, never have to scrub them.

Anyone know if the factory coating will come off with media blasting? Or does it take chemical stripping?

I havent done it, but when i was shopping for my raptor the dealer had one on the lot with bumper, flares, bed & steps done. I didnt look like the steps had ever been rock rashed but it did look really good with all matching.
