I'd use it for quick overland trips or to protect vacation items from the elements. It seems to hold up really well to the elements since its Sailcloth in essence. It comes off in about 1 minute and isn't thousands of dollars so, you could have both a Tonneau for everyday driving and switch to the SoftTopper if you needed protection for bulky items.

I do think it looks military-esque rather than the boring (and somewhat ugly) look of most caps. (Although have to admit the RSI Cap looks pretty good.)
Alright yea, it's pretty cool. Just don't know if i'll ever need it enough to throw down an extra $800 on top of the tonneau. I think the setup I am trying to go for is the Retrax Pro XR for the waterproofing/security. Plus it gives you the ability to stack additional storage on top if you want to add gear or tents or whatever. Rarely do I find myself in a situation where I am driving in the rain to pick up bulky items, but who knows! Maybe I'll cave in the future when I win the lottery.

that modular smartcap looks pretty cool too. i'll have to research that one as well.
I like that it's a bit different from what you see everyday, it's got that utilitarian look about it. It's been a solid cap for me, I love the positive air pressure vent in dusty areas, but you have to keep a decent speed up or dust can still seep in around the tailgate. Still way less dust than any of my previous canopies.

I've been going back and forth. I've had an ARE topper on my F150 and a tri-fold tonneau. I like them both a lot. I'm now leaning toward the Undercover tri-fold tonneau. If I were to get a topper, it would definitely be the ARE Revo that you mentioned. Best design I've seen and great company.

The Gen3 will be my first Raptor so I don't have any experience with a topper while pushing it on the trails. Some added weight in the back end is probably a good thing. Might need to check the topper/bed clamps before and after serious offroading. Hopefully the other hardware and windows hold up well.
The weight of the canopy and any gear will make the Raptor sag for sure. I figure I've got about 400 lbs in the back and it definitely sags a leveled truck. I had just purchased Deaver +3HD leaf springs for the rear, but never got them installed before I decided to get an F150 Tremor instead.

Didn't know those existed, and now I am confused. What on earth are we using soft toppers for now? Like transporting medium sized furniture in the rain? Overlanding? It can't be for daily use if you have anything of value back there. What's wrong with a tonneau cover now lol
I see a lot of Jeep Gladiators and Toyota Tacomas with them in my area. Most look like they leave them on full time.

I was just thinking about this, do these toppers have windows? Because there's no way you are keeping a dog in the bed like 4 months out of the year. Just get a Bronco and call it a day lol
The RSI SmartCap EVO Sport has windows in both gull wing doors on the sides.

Beach vacations always tend to be the biggest issue of space with a tonneau, but a softtopper allows you to use the bed with some protection.

Does the Pro XR come with rails or something?

Yea you get the verticality for additional storage, and you could do something like this with a cargo box and a cargo rack for coolers/gear or I could change it out and put out kayaks up there and still carry suitcases and stuff safe inside the bed.. Guess it al really depends on what your hauling lol ReTraxOne-XR_19Tundra_Blue_Rear.jpg

Planning the same. Going with the PRO XR. Was teetering between the retrax and peragon, I just didn’t think I would like how the peragon folds into the box when collapsing. Means I couldn’t fill the truck bed on a long haul trip and be able to open the cover since it would have to fold into what ever I was hauling back there. So settling on the retrax. And like option for the t rail system to add tracks for bikes or other things we want to haul.

I'm digging the RSI SmartCap EVO Sport, but I've already ordered a Diamondback SE (smooth) and their Cross Bin 13 for bed storage/organization after going through my various use cases. I'll see how the tonneau works out and keep the EVO in mind. I also like the idea of the Decker, but unless I got into full SWAT mode I'm not sure I'd put the full drawer system to use on a daily basis. And, without a tonneau or topper scenarios like hauling luggage on a trip are a no go.

It will be interesting to see how the new rear suspension in Gen3 reacts to being loaded and what people do to counter it.
