Stay on topic folks....active exhaust by quicktime performance....nicely made...its around $800 http://shop.quicktimeperformance.com/images/products/831.jpg
You decide on the sound

I really like the idea of the electronic cutout. I just uninstalled my Corsa muffler because even though I really liked the sound, I got tired of listening to it during my stop-and-go commute. This would be a great option to hear it when you want to, and keep it quiet when you don't.

Am I correct in concluding that an exhaust cutout does not free up horsepower nor produce more miles per gallon, and that the only attraction is exhaust sound?

You are correct, in fact you'll probably lose a little HP due to lack of backpressure and you'll definitely lose MPGs.

The most efficient exhaust on a turbo vehicle is nothing off the outlet of the turbo.

scavenging is important pre turbo and on n/a applications.

Please don't spread misinformation.

It may surprise you to learn that there are still some dinosaur GEN1s on the road, and also some Neanderthal GEN1 owners still here at FRF. (This thread is not GEN2 specific.)

Pretty sure turbo motors don't need back pressure. It's the NA motors that need it. Probably why you see 5" straight pipes on big turbo diesel motors and tiny 2" exhausts on most vehicles.
