Well this evening i was out and noticed a wet spot under my truck on the passenger side. I looked in the passenger side front wheel well and noticed my upper control arm was wet, so i opened the hood. To my surprise i ended up looking directly into the valve cover as the oil cap WAS OFF! I instantly checked the oil level and it was still in range but low. Now i had my truck serviced about 150-200 miles ago for an oil change. What it looked like much to my amazement was the technician took the oil cap off and put it on the valence and never put it back on! So for about 200 miles the oil cap was off the engine and clamped between the valence and the grill! Now i always check my shit and am pretty **** about things, but this one time i decided to not check this shit happens. ALWAYS CHECK YOUR STUFF!!!! I plan to call the dealer monday and tell them the situation and get a oil change out of this all. Hopefully they insist on washing the oil off the whole passenger side of the truck. ALWAYS CHECK PEOPLE! Thats all.

Every since a co-worker had his engine on his Ford one ton crater due to no oil in it shortly after he had an oil change and servicing done, I have made it a habit to check everything right after it is done. As well as check everything out after every long drive or lots of running around or day of off-roading. Of course my Raptor gets checked way more then my past trucks since it is always fun to "work" on.

I call bogus alert. Ford dealerships never make a mistake and always do what's in the best interest of their customers.

I started checking my truck over right after the valet brings it up and before I leave. Pop the hood, crawl underneath. Check the bed and in the cab.

And even then you don't find everything. Just this weekend while I was fixing my bed lights I noticed the factor grounding cable on the passenger fender (by the hood shock) was not connected. The bolt was in place, but the cable was next to it. Now I know what happened and when it was. The truck was in to the dealer for the toasted fuse 27. They were going to replace the whole harness and fuse box. Got about half way into it and then we decided to leave it the way it was. So the dealer put everything back. Well, except for that ground cable.

Ouch, I can only imagine what a mess that created ! This is why I enjoy changing the oil on all of my cars/bikes/trucks - know it isn't practical for everyone out there...

Anyways, tell 'em to start scrubbing with some diluted Simple Green and plenty of shop towels/rags.

If they try to powerwash the oil off they are gonna blast the water into places where it doesn't belong (ie - electrical gremlins, rusted sparkplugs wells/holes, etc).

Same thing happened to me on a trip to Vegas. Noticed it in Amarillo. Wasn't too happy but at least the cap was still sitting on the battery. Always check before I leave the dealership now.
