Hi People:
I Just picked up today my Raptor after having it get done Kooks Headers, Catted Y- Pipe, and I also have a Magnaflow Cat-back system.
The sound and power gain is awesome.
The only concern I have now is that under regular acceleration there is an engine detonation sound, due to bad gas (That's what the Tuner Specialist of the shop told me) the first thing that I got asked when I got there to pick it up, was if I was running 87 Octane gas on it. I told them Hell no thats my 2nd Baby I only run 93 Oct. on it and if there were something better other than race gas I would be running that.
So after that we went for a test drive so I knew exactly what they were talking about, and indeed under regular and hard acceleration there is a strange noise coming from either the headers, engine or Cats. Its kind of weird because I have never heard how the detonations sound like. But it sounds similar to a minimal fan to plastic shroud rub, though it doesn't feel it rubs and it doesn't rubs.
The tune that the truck has is 93 perf. tune. They twicked the tune to try and fix it but, nothing it still does the "Detonation" sound.
When I got home I immediately returned the ECU to stock and went for a test drive and it still has that weird sound.
The guys at the shop told me to finish that gas tank and fill it again with 93 Oct. Preferably from shell. I ONLY USE EITHER SHELL OR BP gas on my truck or when in need I prefer Mobil or Chevron. Then to go back to the shop so they can have more time to tune it and get rid of the problem.

What are your thoughts in this weird problem?
BTW they installed new OEM header gaskets.

Are you running a aftermarket intake system? If so, I would remove it and get it back to stock and see if you still have the knock.

What 93 performance tune are you using, a custom one from the shop?
And I'm surprised you didn't mention throwing codes when you went back to the stock Tune.
It shouldn't run well at all with stock tune and LT headers.

Yes I am running an AFE Stage 2 Intake system. Unfortunately I already shipped the stock Intake to where I am going to be leaving from april on.

Yes it's a custom tune from the shop. I had my truck custom Dyno tuned with them.
When I returned the ECU back to stock and went for a test drive it didn't present any trouble codes, lets see today if some codes appear while driving.

i think they didnt tune it right

Greatfully I will be in Empty hopefully today. Going back to the shop as soon as I get new gas to retune it.

I really don't think it's the gas.
There probably going to have to remove some spark advance.
And get you the HP numbers a different way.

There are quite a few guys with LT headers,
running 5Star's 87 economy Tunes without any pinging.

And I would like to correct you on what the computer is called.
It is a PCM ( Powertrain Control Module )

And I still surprised that you haven't thrown the wrench light yet.
With a CAI and LT headers on a stock Tune, it should have happen in the first few miles.

Thanks for the correction I just said ECU because on the SCT device that's what it said "Unlocking ECU".
As of today I am running stock tune and no light as of yet. Here is a picture.

I will give them a Call and talk with them on what else can be other than gas, I will definitely be mentioning the spark advance.

You didn't have to put up a picture, I believe you.

How is the truck shifting? No hiccups?

Jaja, no I just put it because like you, I am also in shock that the light hasn't come up yet with the stock tune. The truck is shifting normal with the stock tune; but when I install the 93 performance tune, there are firmer shifts.
