AFE Question

AFE goes straight into the throttle body... removes resonator box.

I personally love the sound, to others (like the OP) it may be too loud for their taste.

It might sound silly, but.... My question is, does it add any drone while cruising on the highway? I'm shopping around for the "right" intake and don't want to buy one that will drive me nuts.

FWIW I have the volant intake which removes the box at the throttle body and it is loud when given significant throttle. So, the reason for the box at the throttle body is to dampen the noise from the air intake, therefore any CAI that removes the box is going to have the same issue.

I did not notice ANY additional drone on the highway... Sounds like stock at cruising speed UNTIL you step on the throttle. To me, that's the perfect setup.

Afe stage 2 there is no drone, but a little "burp" (as other members call it) around 2000 rpm. Its not bad to me and other old guys it sounds like the vacuum secondary of a holley 4 barrel opening up.

I know this is an old thread but I love the fact that when you mash the pedal I hear the roar but not all the time. Definitely recommend the AFE stage 2 CAI!

I cut the AFE tube so I could still use the stock resonator box. Wife is happy and i still get a nice growl when I step on it.

Definitely improved performance but I also added a 5 star tune at the same time. Sounds and feels badass. I have not noticed any MPG gains with just the CAI before I installed the tune. Stage 3 sells the AFE with the tune for it as a kit.
