AFE Intake installed

I ordered the AFE intake and have had it installed for about three weeks now. I love the way it sounds and how it makes the gas pedal shudder a little under acceleration. Definitely no drone and i have noticed my in town mileage go up a little. I need to do a little more checking on highway, but i think it increased my mileage there as well. I am running a slightly modified MBRP turndown as well.

Install was very easy. First time it took me 45 minutes and i feel i could do it in 20 the next time. Their instructions were fairly easy to install. Everything fit perfectly.

Also, i would like to give a shout out to Chris at Freedom Motorsports for his customer service and willingness to shift some things around for me. I originally ordered the Volant from him and had a change of heart a couple days after i ordered. Chris changed the order for me after some calls and got me set up with the AFE and a cover. Thank you Chris!

I am not planning on doing a tune any time soon for a various reasons. (The biggest is that this it not my truck, but my company's. They've been mod friendly thus far, but i don't want to push it.)

I do have a question: Is there any advantage in pulling the battery cable and resetting the stock ECU? Everything seems to be running fine currently, and i saw mention of doing this to recalibrate the MFS or something.

That's the same setup I have, except I am running a 5Star tune. The ECU will calibrate by its self, don't bother pulling the battery. There is an idle trim reset process listed in the owner's manual but that only speeds up what will eventually happen.

I loved AFE on my xrunner and wanted it for this truck. With the cover is it sealed?

Ahhh kind of. You could seal where the stock tabs insert into the AFE box and that'd be pretty close to sealed.

I had the hoses pop off of mine. We were hitting mud puddles pretty quick but both did pop off. I just got a couple clamps and they have been good since. $2 and your good. If you don't take her off road then you'll probably be fine just a heads up

Congrats. I never thought much of the warnings from other members in regards to upgrading the cheap stupid rubber pieces that both connect intake tube to throttle body and filter. But if you off road your truck i HIGHLY recommend replacing them with high quality silicone versions.
I popped my hood the last time out only to find out i was not connected to my filter at all anymore, rubber connector had tore right off from heavy off roading. I had to use black electrical tape someone had on hand to get me home.
Again, strongly advice the replacement of AFE rubber pieces with silicone versions. This is the only flaw i have come across using the AFE.

Also, i too ran my intake without the tune for a little only to end up getting a 5star tune because my truck did not function properly without it. Every truck will react differently for the most part though, just stating my experience. It was either intake and tune or no intake at all.

I had issues with the AFE couplers tearing because they are made out of cheap rubber.

I also cut the afe tube and reinstalled the 6.2 Airbox that connects to the throttle body and it fixed the excessive intake noise as well as the gas pedal rattle.

Ended up throwing the AFE in the trash and purchased a Airaid! 100000xs better intake!

My coupling tore also. I called up the folks at aFe and they sent me the set of replacement couplers. They told me that there was a batch that wasn't made by their normal producers and the couplers were silicone, but they didn't have embedded fibers like the ones do now.
I've had my aFe with a 5star tune for almost 3 years now and except for the tear, I've had no issues. No excessive noise and no throttle petal issues.
