I read somewhere else today they did this by using the spring compressor (not the big-ass bench one, lol) and moved up the ring without pulling the shock assembly. Anyone get into this yet? If I thought I could get a spring compressor in there, I'd do it.

be very careful using the spring compressor on the truck, it can be done, but you are compromising your saftey to save a few minutes.

With all the pneumatic tools in my garage, its quick work anyway.... I don't have a spring compressor laying around, but easy enough to obtain.

I'm more concerned about the alignment adjustment after the fact, but apparently on the middle perch its a non-issue.

If I'm not draggin another bike 250 miles this weekend I may pop this trucks cherry.

i got this done tonight using your write up SDHQ thanks.

and to anyone thinking of trying to do the middle perch mod with the shock on the truck don't even waste your time....i tried and after an hour and a half dicking around with spring compressors and not being able to get at the rear side of the spring or even remove the friggen set screw...i said screw it. not to mention stuffing your head in the wheel well with bending spring compressors is not a great idea.

zip,zip,zip,zip took the shock out in less than 10 minutes and decided to go to the top perch instead.

the first shock took about an hour total and the second one we got done in about 30 minutes.

Seriously though, do you think middle perch puts the Raptor running boards closer to level or the top perch? After reading that thread on alignment, caster, cant, and legs in the air, I think I'm leaning towards the middle perch.

for some reason I'm at about 40.5 (not exactly the same on either side) in the front and 43.5 in the rear with the stock BFG's on board. So going to the top perch (scales not included) it should be leveled out pretty well.

Assuming the wheelwell measurements are indicative to the actual front/rear height, the top may be the best bet... The running boards are 1" higher in the rear (stock) than the front. I also measured marks on the front and rear doors, and they are 1.5" higher in the rear than in the front.

idk, if you want the top of your wheelwells the same height, you're best on top perch. If having a slight rake from front to rear is fine (1.5 inches over the length of the truck), then middle perch (pictured about with his buddies) is your best bet IMO

Oh yeah, these measurements are on a CREW, not a CAB....so these measurements may or may not be what you see on a SCab...

Warranty

Well I ordered mine about 4 weeks ago and told them I wanted the service department to put my Raptor on the top perch. So we'll see if they do it, cause if they do then Ford cant say squat about it.

Did you still have to use a spring compressor after you took the shock off, but it was just easier to use? What holds the shock inside the spring anyway and why do you need to compress it to get it off and back on i assume? Where did you get the spring compressor?
