so about 3k for just the front and winch?

Post 3 states "$4400ishes". Front and Rear Venom bumpers should be around $3100 to $3700 without the winch, They'll give you a better deal if you order both of them at the same time and shipping 2 bumpers is the same as shipping one.

JRUBIN80 - no regrets on the set up at all, you will love it! I would suggest checking to see if your winch fits before you finish bolting down your bumper. Get the bumper on and the nuts started and set the winch in to see if it lines up with the holes. (you install the winch after the bumper is on, not before) I told the guys at ADD about the problem and hopefully they made the corrections. If it does not fit (winch hits the condensing unit) all you have to do is have a small plate welded in front of their plate and drill new holes for the mounting of the winch. Just make sure you have a GOOD welder, don't want that to come flying off when you are pulling your truck out.

Also watch for the bumper rubbing the piece of molding on the top and center of the bumper. If it rubs a washer or two between the bumper and the frame on the top bolts turns the bumper out enough so it won't rub.

This is my first synthetic rope on a winch, all my old winches had steel cables. First impression is that I like it but one thing that I did not know, Warn says you should replace the synthetic cable every 12 months! Time will tell if you really need to, a ne synthetic rope runs $250.00. I ordered a neoprene cover from Amazon for the winch, I think between that and being that the winch is under the hood (keeping it out of the sun) it should help the life of the rope.

The steel cables had a definate life to them too, on my last truck I had to replace the cable twice in 12 years. Plus you get an extra 25' using the rope in lieu of cable and it weighs a lot less. Let me know your impressions of the rope once you get yours.

"Warn says you should replace the synthetic cable every 12 months". I wonder how many folks do that? I know I wouldn't. It will be on there until looks really fray or it breaks.

I hear you Blind1, but I will tell you this, I will be more careful with the syn rope that I was with my old steel cable to be sure not to damage it! They do show you in the owners manual what the rope will look like when it needs to be replaced. The only thing that would suck would be needing the winch and having the rope bust and be stranded.

I found out long ago one of the things a winch does for you is gets you stuck futher off the road. 1st stage, go as far as you can in 2wd. Then go into 4wd high, go as far as you can then 4wd low and you start being careful at that point as you know all is left for a life line is the winch. Without a winch you start having doubts where you should go earlier.

I do a lot of hunting in Wyoming, Colorodo and New Mexico where we get into some places that you might not see another truck for days at a time so the winch becomes a pretty important tool.

I have been using it for year and its way better than steel it floats! I have never had one break on me, or detriate but I keep them out of th uv light and from rubing on sharp edges which is about the only thing that hurts them.

If you are really woried. Its super easy to store a second syntehic cable and the tool you need to respool in a small bag under the back seat.

I have been using nothing but synthetic winch line for a long time now. As stated above as long as it stays out of direct sunlight and doesn't get abraided it will be fine. Your winch is hidden and won't see much light, unlike an exposed spool on a jeep or something. I have some 10 years old that sees regular use that is still perfectly good. I use 1" tubular webbing from a climbing store to protect the rope from sharp edges. Just get 10 feet of it and slip it over the winch rope and keep it near the hook end. Then, you can slide it to wherever you need it when you are using the winch.

Looks nice! I haven't seen your truck in person since you've done this. I'll be keeping an eye out for you in traffic.

1 comment: I'm a little concerned about where your front license plate is mounted... Depending on how hard you like to charge the whoops, that mounting point may not work. For example, if you run the Powerline in Santa Teresa, you're going to be leaving there without that license plate. For what it's worth, mine is mounted on my ADD skidplate. I drilled 4 holes underneath the ADD logo (see my sig pic) and used locking nuts. It's not a very visible angle, but in 2 years a cop has never said a word about it, yet the license plate has stayed on through some pretty serious skidplate smacking out in the desert.

1 question: how are you liking the Rigid lights in back when your reverse camera is on? Does it work well, or is the light too bright for the camera?
