Huck, it is just sitting on the seat so that it can be easily removed for those off road occasions, I don't think we would want her sitting there... That vertical piece extends down between the two seats. Combine that with her weight and it stays put.

I have an ARE canopy with side opening and vented windows for my partner.

Side opening windows work for me since I have a tool box just behind the cab and I can get in it from either side (I carry a short step stool to be able to reach inside it). The vented windows are a must for dogs when it's warm.

Why not just flip the seats up? That's what I do and it protects the leather seat and back rest that way.

Neat idea.

I want to build something like that, but I don't think my dog would stay back there. I spoiled her with my last truck. It was a beater 92 F150 with Captain chairs and I would let her sit on the center console next to me. Seemed like a great idea at the time.. haha!
