A-Pillar Lighting

Hey Guys, I am thinking of adding an A-Pillar set up. Curious on some feedback on what all you guys are running...seems like the BD XL80s might be a good choice?? I run a lot of backroads and go deep in the woods for snowmobiling so I like all the extra light I can get in the night. I have a raptorlights fog kit in the bumper already and love it.

Also - I saw a few options for brackets. I would prefer not cutting or drilling anything if that is entirely possible.

The XL80’s are definitely an excellent choice. We run them on our shop trucks and love them. As far as mounts go, SDHQ and Alternative Offroad make great bolt in, no drill options for mounts. And both are very solid to ensure the lights won’t move.

So I had the XL Pros on our demo truck but realized I wanted a brighter spot. So we went with XL80s but put spot lenses on them (something we offer at 4x4TruckLEDs.com).

I like the XL80s for spots. They throw light pretty far. I also run 4x LP9 Pros on my bumper and the spots from the XL80 seem to blow past those (i'm also running driving/combo LP9s which is why as well).

For mounts, we went with the Alternative Offroad mounts. These are mounts we keep in stock (which was a bonus) but the fact that they install SUPER EASY was another reason. These just mount up to existing bolts under your hood. Yes, UNDER the hood. So you just loosen one hood bolt, slide in the bracket, tighten it up. Then loosen another bolt, slide in the bracket, tighten it up. DONE. As you open your hood, the light goes with it. THis means you can run a BIGGGG light if you want (like an LP6 or LP9... yeah there's a few crazy SOB's out there who do this). But for most of us Squadrons or XL's are PLENTY big enough there.

So there are some options for you. We keep everything in stock and we're over here on Long Island so shippings probably like a day to you, which isn't bad at all.

Not to hijack the thread. I’m looking for the same setup on my truck. Now I got some old Offroad pros telling me to turn those lights out about 20 degrees to light the sides more. They said it helps a lot with turning. Any thoughts?

Depends entirely on your purpose. Sounds like you need something for back-road driving which might work great. Where I'm from, we couldn't do that... too much traffic.

I just setup a Jeep last week with some work/scene lights for his pillars. He's aiming them at an angle to light up the sides of the road. Where he lives is all beaches so he drives on empty roads with lots of deer, so aiming them off to the sides at an angle works best.

For me... spots works best as I only use them off-road on trails.

So it REALY depends on WHAT your intended purpose is.

I went with the squadron racer edition on mine with the alternative off-road mounts from Ford Raptor Lights. Customer service was awesome. Install of the mounts themselves took maybe 3 min a side.

I can't recommend the full power driving/spot combo XL80's (9600 lumens) enough for the "A" pillars!
Unless you have a reason to run spots only, the combos are really going to provide a good spread of light. I thought I'd have a problem with the hood lighting up and losing light because of the hood...(no hood graphics) turned out to not be a problem....Not picking on the Squadrons, but if you have the budget the XL's will put out way more light...
I run the SDHQ pillar mounts and are very happy, but they do require a bit more to be taken apart to install....
