Looking at the front of my truck, I was wondering how I could put low profile lights on my truck.. Though about the behind front grill light bar. After seeing how much diffusion there is with this set up on Madcowranch's truck. I thought there had to be another way, talking to WSI about a low profile light bar on the roof away from the front windows to keep whisling down. THat was also thown out because of drill through the roof to mount the light bar. So, looking at Sue Meads truck the idea came to me.. Why not put duallies d2 (7-8of them) mounted in the grill under the ford...

here is my crappy attempt at photoshop to visualize what it would look like..

untitled-1.png

There is a metal bar that runs along the lower grill that the could be used to support the lights. the grill could be cut out. each d2 could be adjusted to give full coverage off road.

I am also going to mount hood lights for longer distance lighting..

Ideas, thoughts, comments?

I like the way this is headed.

If you cut the grill out, could it be done in such a way to salvage it. Then mount the lights back 1/2 inch so that you could re-install the grill in front of the lights when not in use?

I have thought of that.. Saving the pieces and welding/gluing them on cover for ultimate stealth.

Have you thought about mounting D2s in the bumper? After voting for the frf pics on the Ridged Facebook page yesterday I went to their site and noticed they now offer a flush mount version of a few of their lights. Might be able to mount 4 or 5 across the top center over the license plate (spots???). Then a pair stacked on top of each other just to the outside of the rubber bump pads (floods???). That would give you 8 or 9 lights total without adding weight to the hood.

Do really like the look of the HIDs btw, I do however see to possible issues the setup I though I'd throw out. 1) Not sure the gas piston hood lifts will be able to handle the extra weight of the lights and brackets. Having owned multiple POSs with bad lifts it sucks & I have the dents in the back of my head to prove it. 2) The hood vibrates when the trucks is moving especially off-road. The extra movement of the light relative to the rest of the truck might be distracting / annoying.

Really like the Idea Greg, thanks for getting my wheels turning.

Dually d2 pull 1 amp each (i am pretty sure of this) so 7 amps total...
Since I will be using wide and spot d2 would be seperating them with 2 switches..

Okay one last one for the night.. here is hidx 4" hid lights...

Now this with Ducati retrofits!! perfect!

How about a Photoshop with six round lights on top?
