Wow,

I'm a Chemical Tanker Driver and delivered Gas for 5 years but never delivered anything less than 87 Octane. Out of curiosity, what State do you live in?

We have 86 octane available here in New Jersey

In ky 87 is the lowest, never seen any lower other than e85. Probably won’t hurt it just may feel a bit sluggish

ROFL. Your Mother In Law must have had a heart attack when she saw the price of full fuel tank.

In Mexico, the Pemex Gas Stations (and the road side locals selling gas) may have inconsistent low quality fuel.
Something like an Octane Booster has seemed to help combat the effects.

I'm stock and run 87 in TX, 85 when I go up to Denver. Not a big deal unless you have a tune. I tow, work, and play, and regular fuel has never been an issue. I drive around Houston in sport mode all the time and its fun. I know I can have more fun with 93/91, but it's fine. I only do Shell, and then Sunoco if there's no Shell around.

My mom would steal my truck like that, but I can't even get my mother in law to sit in the front seat much less drive. She drives the equivalent of a Nissan Versa back in Thailand. I got her a little folding step stool to get in and out haha.

Here in colorado we have 85-91 octane. Theres only 1 station here in my city that sells 93. Other than that you'll need to go to special dealers for 93 or higher octane or race fuel

it compensates for the lower octane by sensing detonation and lowering boost and timing. Most modern turbo cars do. But it defends much faster than it pushes it. It will slowly push up the timing and boost to full potential if everything is ok. If it senses that something is not ok, it’ll slow it down pretty quick. It’s not like it has an octane sensor.

it will react quicker to protect your engine from the low octane way faster than it will react to increase the performance when you start using the higher octane again. Sorry to be unclear.

How/why the hell does your mother in law have access to your truck??

Longgg story short.. I've been out of town for a while and I had it in the shop getting some new stuff put on. My wife went to pick it up and I left it at her parents house. I guess the MIL had some errands to run? lol.

Next time, tell her to put premium in it, and if she really wants to be sneaky, put it on jackstands and run it in reverse to get the miles off the truck.
