How would I know how to find if my raptor is a 801a or 802? Where is this information located, on the Vin tag? Just curious because the post above with the details on which model contains what, I have several options the 802 has but I do not have a push to start button.
Thanks

I think in '17 - '19 the tech package was unbundled from 802a. If it's a '20 and has a key, it's 801a. You could ala carte add options to 801a. I got the Torsen, for example. I'm perfectly happy with my key. I could live with a fob, even though they're kinda gay and I see no advantages, but $7000 for a bunch of mostly useless fluff seemed like a waste to me.

I used to be hesitant about push button start, but now I see no benefit to sticking a physical key in.

to each their own - I (2 times now) purposely bought an 801a equipped Raptor w/ a good amount of "a la carte" options added on - I do not like push button start, I misplace my keys regularly, this makes it worse. It does nothing for me in terms of "convenience" - question - do you still need a key to use your Raptor whether it is 801 or 802? Answer - yes. Question - do you still need to perform a physical act in order to start the truck once you have unlocked it or does the special "smart" key actually read your mind now? Last I checked, NO you still need to push the button to start in an 802a & I still need to stick my key in ignition & turn it (not turn & hold, just a quick click & its on since its electronic ignition - WOW the tech!) So other than simply adding "tech & complexity for tech & complexity's sake" - which is exactly what push button start is, I prefer an old school key. I look the look & feel of it, & I like the analog, mechanical, FAMILIAR action of cranking that ignition myself. Would I want to go back to manually locking hubs for 4wd while I try & get out all packed snow & ice on my wheels in freezing weather w/ a hub key - of course not! But the push button start thing does nothing for me, other than add like $10k to the price of my Raptor

And its not like I can't afford it - my 2020 has a $4k note & my 2018 was a rolling *** of cash title in safe........maybe there's a reason for that though....I don't blow $10k on push button start options hahahhaha

Besides it just not being a Raptor, one of the main things I dislike about my 2020 XLT loaner is that is uses a physical key. Not having to remove the key from my pocket to unlock the door, then look over to the side to see the keyhole (to prevent inadvertent scratches to the trim) is annoying. It's a small thing for sure, but being able to just walk up, grab the handle, and push the button is a nice convenience.

What I do like about it is the narrower running boards. The Raptor's look nice/better, but the sizable width makes avoiding them when getting out without catching your calf/pant leg more of deliberate action. My small children also love the front bench seats, oddly. 3 in the front lol!

You’re right about to each their own. I personally wish I didn’t have a moonroof, lane departure assist, and adaptive cruise control and especially auto start/stop (I know it’s to get the fleet mpg down for CAFE). Those 4 things could be taken out of my truck tomorrow and I would be satisfied.

The one benefit to a physical key in my opinion is that there is no need to step on the brake pedal.

That's like saying there's no difference between walking five miles and driving five miles because "you still need to perform a physical act" either way, or that a ghetto apartment is the same as a 10k SF mansion because they both have roofs that keep you dry.

Yeah, never mind the power rear window, Torsen diff, 360 camera, heated wheel, B&O sound, and navigation that come with the 802A package.

Weird flex, but OK.

Weird flex, but OK.

you must not get how these trucks can be optioned- first 2018 801a truck had pano roof, torsen diff, beadlocks, bed lighting, bed liner, navigation/sync connect, remote start, & other random stuff, 2020 801a had similar minus roof but add trailer brake control both have power sliding rear window.

this is what you’re paying $10k for- heated steering wheel, B&O stereo- wooptee doo- push button start, couple extra fancy trim pieces, a $500 (maybe less actually can’t remember) torsen diff, 360 camera

only think you “cant” get on the 801a for cheap a la carte add on would be the memory function of power seats (that ones a head scratcher), heated wheel, B&O stereo, 360 camera & push button start.l

I don’t care about a B&O stereo the one in the truck is fine if I wanted more I wouldn’t bother w/ b&o id add aftermarket & it’d be better than either option.

Only thing I’d pay extra for if I could on an 801a that’s standard on 802a would be the 360 camera & the memory seat buttons. But I sure as hell wouldn’t pay $7-10k for that crap.

driving 5 miles vs walking as an analogy....extreme, but ok? Probably better would’ve been- hand crank manual window vs power button- to which I wonder either way- why don’t any Raptors have one touch up/down read windows lol??

Point on what I owe (don’t owe) on the truck(s) - it’s not a “flex”- it’s pointing out quite matter of factly- the difference in price I’d have to fork over for the 802a package is less than what I even financed, but the avg Raptor owner probably has 3x that amount at least financed to drive it (like $25-35k range) - so clearly, it ain’t about the $$$, but when a consumer is spending $10s of thousands - hell $70k anyhow give or take- they get what they F’n want

and what I wanted was a truck w/ a ******** key lol! Not a mall crawler w/ led up lighting & push button start (btw- you cover that start button w/ a vinyl sticker yet or waiting until- not if- until it cracks in 1/2 lol?)

My 801a has a power rear window. And the Torsen is nice if you go off road. I could see 360 camera being useful if you crawl without a spotter. But a navigation system that costs $700, requires a subscription after the trail period, works half as well as a $100 phone, and is guaranteed obsolete in five years? Please. And the sound system? If you're tone-deaf and have hearing loss like me, it's a waste. If you're an audiophile, it's not nearly enough. At least it's expensive.

Easy way I used to tell if the truck I was looking at was an 802a when shopping for it was the painted mirrors. Autotrader doesn’t have the most accurate listings but photos rarely lie.

I bought used and found 801s and 802s were priced pretty similar once they were 1-2 years old.

You understand that you can't call out a "$10k option" as being useless when you pay thousands to get some of the options that are included with the $10k package, right?

Only thing I’d pay extra for if I could on an 801a that’s standard on 802a would be the 360 camera & the memory seat buttons. But I sure as hell wouldn’t pay $7-10k for that crap.

You're not paying that much for those options, you're paying that much to get those options in a larger options package that also has other improvements. It's like you're purposely trying to be obtuse about this.

driving 5 miles vs walking as an analogy....extreme, but ok? Probably better would’ve been- hand crank manual window vs power button- to which I wonder either way- why don’t any Raptors have one touch up/down read windows lol??

It's hilarious that you mock the Intelligent Key option but question why you can't have one touch power windows in the rear.

Point on what I owe (don’t owe) on the truck(s) - it’s not a “flex”- it’s pointing out quite matter of factly- the difference in price I’d have to fork over for the 802a package is less than what I even financed, but the avg Raptor owner probably has 3x that amount at least financed to drive it (like $25-35k range)

The net cost of the Intelligent Key option on my truck is likely less than the amount of interest you're paying, but it would be ridiculous to make a big deal about that on the forum, no?

and what I wanted was a truck w/ a ******** key lol! Not a mall crawler w/ led up lighting & push button start (btw- you cover that start button w/ a vinyl sticker yet or waiting until- not if- until it cracks in 1/2 lol?)

Sir, you have a strange infatuation with keys.
