That looks like an operable one way breather valve on there, like in aquariums. Outrance only, like a bootyhole.....

Why the need to extend?

They used that style of valve on the Maytag fridges, where the water drains from under the freezer during the frost-free cycles into the tray to evaporate.

The rubber ends up getting gummy after years and not opening like it should. It floods your freezer, which then floods your floor. Thankfully I caught it before it destroyed our wood flooring.

They switched back to a standard p-trap drain and will send out the part for free. It's wide open, with nothing to clog up. Nice and simple. Similar to a high, open trans breather the OP is after.
