They want to replace entire axle and assembly.

I know they cannot sell a car with a warranty and then not honor that warranty. Back order or not - they will be giving me a new truck comparable to drive / and/or paying my car payments. If not - they can buy it back.

They can’t let it sit for months.

Ford corporate said they elevated the request to emergency. So we will see.
Just drive your truck until they get the axle in. Not that big of a deal, sucks to deal with but no reason you can’t drive it.

Ephing run it, it ain't going to catastrophically fail for years. People act like torn boot equals explosion in 20 miles.

I have seen people not replace an axle.for years due to budget issues.

Have them order and axle and tell them to call you when it is in.

In the mean time, beat the hell out of it.
Yep exactly . I ran a cv axle with a torn boot for years before it failed . It however was on a front shaft on a jeep jk. Live solid axle. But still always rotated. The grease pack is likely very thick.

Here’s how the dealership I go to works.
1) I reach out and schedule and appointment.
2) They agree the part needs replaced after looking.
3) Then they call me when the part is in to schedule the repair.
No way I would leave my truck for this.

My old dealer was like this with the addition of:

4) give parts ordered for me to another customer.

If they’re gonna replace the whole axle just drive it with the torn boot. I wouldn’t do any water crossing but it would be fine for normal driving for a bit. Could also always put one of those split repair boots or even wrap a section of a tire inner tube and zip tie it to “seal” up the torn boot temporarily. I’m also sure someone makes an aftermarket boot kit if you want to pull the axle.

Little duct tape and zip ties is what you need!
the repair lasted 400 miles of prerunning for the Baja 1000 plus the drive back from La Paz!

For OP that might not be the right strategy…. The only leverage here to get ford to speed up the process is if the time sitting at the dealer not repaired has a risk of crossing lemon territory.

Only after ford agreed to either swipe the part from the assembly line or offered some compensation would I consider accepting a temp or “duct tape” solution and drive it around. (Even if I knew logically it would have minimal risk)

even in the face of a lemon case... i didnt mean actually taking off the assembly line more committing the manual work to having a unit planned for shipment, destined for the factory, diverted as a one off treatment to get this truck fixed before they have to pay the full value back.

prolly more likely they would offer OP some $$$ along with a temp fix to tide him over while they get organized
