I'd be careful running a higher viscosity in these motors. There were people spinning bearings in BMWs using too high of a viscosity - oil channels were so thin/small and the oil was not lubricating properly. I see no reason not to use 5w30 if that is what is recommended. Plus, knowing ford they will void your warranty if something happens and they find out you used the wrong weight oil.

It’s best to follow the manual. But sometimes in there there’s a basic specification and advisements for heavier use.

If Ford doesn’t recommend it I’m not doing it. But if you’re modified past specs then you need to make your own judgement.

Changing it often is more important than the brand. I wouldn't go beyond Ford's specifications. Brand it up to you but the specs and viscosity ratings are there for a reason based on testing and manufacturers results. Violate at your own risk. I understand the temptation but seems dangerous and not necessary to risk the engine and warranty.

I've been using it too - it's good shit for sure. I went from Amsoil to Schaeffers and noticed a quieter and smoother idle.

I ran 5w40 mobile 1 Turbo diesel oil in my 2014 Tremor ecoboost with out issue .Mainly for fuel dilution reasons and arizona summer heat . I'm still undecided if i'm going to run it in my 19 Raptor i'm only at 1500 miles on the clock.

I have always used 5w40 Turbo diesel in my H3 as a summer oil only, H3 has 120,000, no leaks no oil consumption and it cleans the shit out of the engine, comes out black, oil change every 5000mi. I have used it in my Raptor when I went to Death Valley because of constant driving, heat and I was maxxed out on hauling weight (maybe over). Mobil 1 states it is approved for gas engines and meets SN and API Cert. requirements. I don't use it routinely because I switched to Mobil 1 euro 0w40 as my summer oil.

Never heard of Schaeffer before so I looked it up. I was trying to see what group oil it was in and came across this at www.cumminsforum.com:

Schaeffer's is the oldest oil company in the United States and has typically in the past catered more toward the industrial and agricultural markets. In recent years, their trend is making the product available to a broader base of customers, from what I gather. The founder of the above mentioned website, bobistheoilguy.com is/was a Schaeffer's oil company representative.

Their is no doubt, Schaeffer's oil is a quality product. The series 7000 15W-40 is usually around 1/2 the cost of a full synthetic, and capable of extended drain intervals. The additive package is robust. The composition of this oil is 20-25% PAO, the rest being group II+ and additive package. This is what I'm currently using, and I paid $18 a gallon, full retail price. You can order it wholesale, and they'll provide free shipping on orders over $300.

The series 9000 is 20-25% PAO with the rest Group III basestock and the same additive package. They can call it full synthetic, just like all the other oil companies do, because of the trade ruling of Castrol vs. Mobil 1 some years ago. Even amsoil markets a line of group III oil and labels it as synthetic oil, too!

In my opinion, the Schaeffer's product offers a better cost/benefit ratio. It has been said, all the virtures of a full synthetic can be had by simply using a blend of it, and any base oil is nothing, without a decent additive package.

So it is a group III oil and not really a full synthetic oil. Amsoil is in group IV and thus 100% synthetic. I am not saying Schaeffer is bad. Mobile1 is a group III oil.

I wouldn't get too hung up on group 3 vs group 4 base stock. I change it every 5k anyway - and no joke, the 9000 oil made a noticeable difference in sound and smoothness of idle.

Going to change oil every 5k miles. Still curious as to if anyone has run 5W-40 in these motors when tuned in very hot and humid areas like SE FL.
