The advantage is price. A new one with tunes is $429ish... Tunes alone from 5 Star are $80 each. 3 x $80 = $240.
If $240 + cost of used SCT < $429, then PROFIT.
Alternatively if you only want 1 or 2 tunes, you can surely come out ahead.
I have 91 perf and 91 econ, but I've never taken it off 91 perf and get 12.6mpg. Food for thought.
Exactly! Here is what I did, I found an unlocked SCT programmer for $140.00 off of Ford forum, contacted Mike at 5 star and with the info off the PCM he emailed me one tune. I know most ppl will buy 3 tunes but for me, I only burn 87 octane fuel so I only bought the 87 performance tune for $80.00. So my grand total expenditure was $220.00 which of course is much lower than $429.00 or whatever the price of a new programmer with tunes costs these days. So it was a NO BRAINER for me. It would be interesting to know of those who bought 3 tunes, how many actually switch between tunes. I think once you pick one you like then you don't switch around. My 0.2 anyway.
It's all bull..I bought a tuner with tunes in it. SCT with five star, and thought hell I just try first before buying new tunes. Worked like a champ! I have never bought any tunes and my works fine.and yes it was used.
I know you said something however all I got was butt checks and blue dental floss....![]()
