Well folks I have taken my truck to three different shops to get the front end looked at. I have a grinding noise or sometime banging sound and the 4wd does not work. The first place tighten some bolts that hold the front diff. Everyone else could not find any other problems. I recently was backing up to my lower garage which is on a steep incline and the front tires would not spin while locked in along with a loud grinding noise. After that drove out to the snow cover road nailed it and everything spun as it should with no noise what so ever. I am at a lose and very pissed because I love this truck an am the original owner. So I know the history which has been babied in my opinion. Just clicked 27,000. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Just went to Montana and had no problems in 2wd clocked on 3000 miles, but did run into the issue when we were out there.

Have taken it into a Ford dealership as a warranty issue? If 4wd is not working then Ford needs to fix it.

Yes has been to two ford dealers. Unfortunately the dealer I bought it from is not within driving distance. I am not familiar with the dealers other than routine maintenance. Tried to search Iwe but had no luck. The dealers also told me that the powertrain warranty was only go from when the truck was built. Seems crazy because bumper to bumper was the day it was purchased!

The grinding noise is the IWE (integrated wheel end) spinning past the gears. The bang is when it the IWE is engaged and working properly, but then slips when the system is under a load. The dealer can't find the issue because the IWE is cracked, but still works in the parking lot when they try it.

Tell the dealer to put it in a gravel parking lot or one with snow and try the following. Put the truck in 4 high while parked, roll forward slightly to ensure its engaged, cut the wheel hard to the left or right, then get on the gas. This should be enough loss to cause the IWE to slip. If the have a hill to try this on, it would make it even better.

Not following, warranty starts when YOU purchased it. Just because a dealer can't sell something doesn't mean the vehicle sits there losing warranty. Is it over 36 months?
It does sound like an IWE problem. Powertrain is 60 months or 60k miles

Mine was at the dealer for two weeks without a fix as of yet , take your GOPRO and make a video , that's my next plan of action before the warranty expires .

Yup sounds like the iwe, my driver actuator broke while i was in baja 500, when driving on 4hi in made a loud CRANK noise, took to the dealer after, found out gears were broke and was replace under warranty. And YES warranty starts when YOU purchase the vehicle, not when it was made
