4K, that's not to bad at all, you have to think about how many hours go into building a truck at 55-65$ an hour plus materials, most big shops are in the 15-20K range. Who did you get a quote from?
Always cage the cab if your going to play hard in the dezert. And especially if your going to link the truck.
I'm kinda curious on the shock mounting location comment! No matter what the shock mounts have to be built cause you wont be using the stock mounts.
I've driven many trucks that have 12/13 up front and 28/30 inch's of travel in the rear and it does work pretty well cause the front tends to bounce over the whoops while the rear sucks them up.
This truck only has 13 up front and 28 in the rear and it loved 3-4 foot whoops

Building up a truck from scratch is NOT any cheaper, trust me, I should have bought a Raptor and slowly built it::::wanna trade :) :::::

EDIT: 3-4 link doesn't really matter on a full size, 3 link is just fine as this will save you on heims, but in all honesty, whats a few hundred dollars. 4 link offers the option to limp back depending on what else it broke, if designed right you will never break an upper link.

That's interesting. I have to do some thinking. I make my decision tomorrow morning. I appreciate someone with experience like yourself taking the time to advise a total stranger.

Oh, I'm leaning towards having Link Motorsports in El Segundo do the work. Also, the quotes I got were probably low; I wasn't talking to the shop owner, and I'm sure he sets the prices.

Good luck, I hope it all works out for you. If you do end up going all out it will be so bad ass. You will truely have the baddest Raptor out there.

Link does bad ass work, if I lived in that area I would surely have them working on my trucks. Endo's the man

I'm sorry to see that Rob.

Last time I saw a Raptor like that was after a jump that went badly in Ocotillo Wells. It was a black one too (wasn't mine)...

Not only might the frame design be for crumple zone but perhaps it also provides Ford with a way of showing "over-use" of the vehicle/frame?

In regard to the frame of the Raptor XT, the Raptor XT reportedly comes with a coilover four-link rear suspension with 18" of wheel travel (see link below). I haven't been able to find any pics or details other than that descrption. Maybe the Ecoboost F-150 that ran Baja has the same rear suspension?

It seems like beefing up that area of the frame could be done rather easily by sandwiching it with profiled steel plates on both sides of the frame rail. Of course that would cause other issues like opening the owner up to legal issues (e.g. if there was an accident and someone inside the Raptor was hurt).

The EB truck that ran Baja is the Raptor R painted Race Red. It has stock style suspension.

It may be "stock style" but its no where near what you get off the show room floor.

Not a frame expert but I'm surprised that frame is not repairable... rumor has it there's a shop out in Coachella that Ford used to repair a few frames on the test Raptors...

I, too, have seen bent Raptor frames after SERIOUS hits. It looks like to me that area is a crumple zone for crash safety AND they've placed slots that look designed to be used to pull the frame in that area right back into place... just my opinion though and pics don't show everything. I'd check a few more frame shops before I gave up.
