Is the gen 01 and the gen 02 the same front drive? Or has Ford upgraded some things

Check this thread out... http://www.fordraptorforum.com/f39/torsen-front-axle-problems-anyone-else-19867/index7.html

Reading a few pages of this discussion will make you at the very least a little bit concerned about adding TORSEN in the gen 2. I've searched far and wide around the internet and haven't found much about torsen on the 2017 model which is why I'm curious. Best case scenario, Ford has since made adjustments and users won't run into the problems that seem to have plagued the 12-14 models. Having some positive reviews would give me a piece of mind on adding it, but frankly just haven't found much..
@Mapleman, Minimal offroading.. but having a Raptor may lead me to start to develop a new hobby lol. And yeah, I've done a lot of research on Torsen. I understand the benefits, but after reading around in the forums, it seems like it causes your raptor to be a lot more problem-prone, specifically in your IWE. Been waiting years to finally get/afford my Raptor, just trying to be careful not to turn it into a love/hate relationship due to the torsen.

Gen1 TORSEN was not the cause of IWE failures, that's a seperate weakness inherent in the IWE design.

To me there is no downside to having TORSEN up front. Esp if you crawl once and a while.

TORSEN is necessary if you want that front end diff to pull you up a steep climb, and helpful in other conditions as well. It's far superior to other LSDs in that it kicks in Without ANY loss of traction. Think of it like an automatic locker except that it multiplies torque right before you need it most.

It's an option because it adds to the raptors ability and without it your not getting the best raptor from a technical standpoint. Don't compromise, TORSEN is all that and is not any more failure prone than w/o TORSEN.

The association with CV failures has more to do with people messing with the front geometry by adding height (top perch) which compromises the CV and IWE under extreme conditions.

the only downside i have with the torsen diff is when you hang a wheel it will go full open on you. other than that i love mine to death. i agree that the IWE design issues and the torsen are not related.
