I'd also argue that most people don't know what to do with the Raptor's "450hp" when driving off-road.

All the TRX does, with the extra HP, is give underskilled drivers the ability to ruin their own day, much faster.

It doesn't matter how fast the TRX can get to 60MPH if it can't carry the speed while navigating terrain.

I hate to break it to everyone, but putting a trx into baja mode isn't a replacement for driving skillset.

it also won't make you Robby Gordon or Rob Mac.

As I already said, 450 HP is a lot of power. But TFL did note that the Raptor is at least a full second slower (if not more) compared to the TRX which is pretty significant given that’s the TRX weighs 700lbs more. So the Raptor does come across as being bare (deficient, lacking, or whatever you want to call it).

So 450 HP is both 'a lot of power' and 'bare'? I think your first statement makes more sense. You're looking for it in terms of what all other trucks and off road vehicles provide and what a customer would typically use. When referring it to the power as 'bare', you're not consider anything other than Raptor and TRX or what a customer would actually use. Really, it sounds as silly as saying that a Raptor is cheap because the TRX cost more. Raptor's are expensive and TRX is more expensive, just like Raptors have a lot of power and TRX has a lot more power.

I can't say I've done the off-road driving you have, but that makes perfect sense to me, the extra horse power is for bragging rights, V8 noises, and maybe leaving a red light a little faster. Perhaps, you'll notice it has a bit more passing power, but I'm skeptical of that.

Yea, thanks for correcting me. It’s a lot of power compared to other gas powered trucks. But when compared to the TRX, it is bare. Lol I think I stated it that way before, but was just rehashing my point in more simplistic terms in reference to what you just quoted, but failed to lay it all out again.

I am just making the comparison as far as HP/TQ numbers and 0-60 times between the TRX and Raptor on-road (not off-road). Again, I think the Raptor is a superior truck. But for a TRX to pull up next to me at a red light and be on 35s and weigh 700lbs more than me and be able to out run me (in stock form) by 1 - 1 1/2 seconds is amazing. I just can’t wait to see what Ford is going to do in response.

I think their comparison is fine, only problem I see is paying $77K for that Raptor. Roman probably paid the highest price he could and it conveniently is right in line with his TRX price, who would’ve thunk? I paid $71K for my 802A fully optioned beside the carbon fiber. Easily could have been a $70K loaded raptor versus a level 1 group $80K TRX, but that’s not how TFL rolls.

Exactly true. 77k is buying an 802A and giving the dealer a big bonus on top. You could have got fully loaded 802A’s not to long ago for 10k less then they paid.

its amazing how people add a bunch of parts to their vehicles and it automatically makes them a better driver. i have seen too many wrecks due to this. as part of jeremiahs group, im sure you have seen it too. my poverty gen 1 has 200k miles on it and probably has lost a good %of hp since i bought it new, but not many people can catch me offroad. knowing your vehicle, knowing your limits, and knowing your terrain are far more important than how much power you have. i hope i am wrong, but i forsee a lot of wrecked rams due to driver inexperience/ego from the hp numbers

It does seem that TFL paid slightly over sticker for their '20 SCREW but it doesn't really matter what they were selling for a year ago, only what the market is currently demanding. Right now the market says MSRP or higher for both the Raptor and the TRX.

As for whether the Raptor is 'bare' under the hood, that seems silly. It's obviously worth noting that the TRX has so much HP, but it's not really useful for anything beyond bragging rights or as a party trick. I would easily rather have a fully loaded 802A Raptor with 450hp over a Level 1 TRX that is missing some pretty obvious options like the sunroof, parking sensors, blindspot, ventilated seats, etc.

Hell, I don't think the Level 1 TRX even has a proximity key. That's more useful to me than the extra horsepower when the alternative truck weighs so much less and still has 450hp.

Remember how many people died when the 427 Cobra started shipping?
too much power and no brakes if i remember correctly. it is a dangerous car but i think the ram has a few better safety items. im just hoping people dont get too stupid with the feeling of more power under the hood

I use my Raptor like most people, a daily driver....it comes down to just a few things for me....looks department goes to the Raptor....The truck gets 20K miles + a year so gas department, while not a huge concern, is still an expense....hands down goes to the Raptor.....interior goes to the Ram....

I'll probably get a new truck next Winter/ Spring....I'll probably buy another Raptor with a V6....would love to have it with a "normal" V8 that gets 12/13 mpg but unlikely to be an option....
