I don't think you'll lose anything in handling going from 22 to 17. The 22s are likely much heavier and I imagine unsprung rotating mass is likely going to be far more detrimental to handling than sidewall flex.

I’m a drag racer That enjoys tearing stuff up. so the liberal crap you can throw out the window. I’m also a dumb redneck however do not care To have the “tallest truck” or the Carolina squat. I care about a quality ride that will get me where I want to go in style with a good ride Quality....price of the larger 22 tires does not make me want to keep them

Ride quality will be greatly improved with 17” wheels and as you have found, the 17” tires are a lot cheaper. My truck rides better than stock on Geisers, Deaver +3s and 37x12.5x17 Toyo RTs.
