Probably hard to tell now, but if the break doesn't look new in some spots, maybe you had a rock or something wedge itself between the caliper and wheel cutting a groove in the wheel and the impact from the whoops finally broke it?

Rotor and shield definitely needed some tweaking when I put the spare on. At the time I just thought it was from the tire being flat / impact.

I had an OEM BMW rim explode like this but it was after hitting a pot hole at 35mph. I could not claim it on insurance due to the fact my deductible was high enough that it was a waste of time for such an inexpensive part compared to what the insurance is really for. Plus any claims will effect your long term premiums.

Wow that’s a major failure. Your ok, so you can fix and move past it. Is it possible at 20psi hitting a whoop and landing not flat. You hit that outer dish section of the wheel and caused the failure? I mean just an unlucky one in a million hit? Maybe there was a big rock buried in the dirt as well.

Not to say that this wheel may have been cast with a defect and waiting to show up. Starting to think going forged for getting serious off road is probably a safe bet in a heavier vehicle.

Still that’s something.

Seriously odd. Wheel fatigue is unlikely, but it sure looks like what happened here.

Did it have trouble holding air pressure before the failure?
