F150/Navigator/Expedition are all that are left using this 3.5 ecoboost. This engine is being phased out. The other vehicles are either all cancelled or got a different engine.
Yes, the vehicles were canceled, not the engines, except for the Explorer, which did change motors.
Also, the Flex still has the 3.5 Ecoboost as an option and the Flex can still be ordered today, but yes, the Flex will be going away by 2020. And I think that is what is happening, it is not so much the motor is going away, but rather the platforms that have had it are going away.
Of the 3 EB motors introduced in 2010 two of them are still in use, and one is gone. Of course all three of them will be gone one day. But the fact that there are 2 generations of the 3.5 EB seems to indicate Ford likes the size.
It does not matter to me, I am not a huge fan of the V-6 at all. Yes, I like the one in my Raptor, but the wife has already told me, in the slim chance that Ford puts a V-8 in a Raptor again, and assuming it is not $100k+, she will buy one. She is the one who picked out our current Raptor anyway.
