I have used my 2019 Raptor to tow plenty but never a trailer with brakes. Today I bought a new 24' boat which is on a 2021, 2 axle EZ Loader 7500 trailer which has trailer brakes. I was able to back it into my garage without an issue. Then I pulled forward to adjust the angle and went back into reverse but it would not move after about a foot. It felt like the trailer brakes were engaging but I am not positive, it could have been the truck. It moves fine forward, but then when I kept trying to reverse something would lock up. I powered the truck off and restarted it. Tried Tow mode and standard mode but same issue.

I used a 2006 Ford F150 and backed the trailer right in. So this makes me think it has something to do with my truck. Any ideas?

if the trailer plug wasnt connected, sometimes theres a solonoid on the trailer that cuts the brakes out while reversing.. make sure the plug was all connected up while backing, or maybe the solonoid on the trailer didnt engage because the "pedal" was pushed in on the trailer?

when you unhooked to try the other truck, the master cylinder probably reset and then when you backed up, the solonoid engaged the lockout feature..

imagine the tongue of the trailer is the brake pedal.. the harder you back up, the harder the brakes apply

I did unhook my Raptor and hook it back up before switching vehicles. It allowed me to reverse around 8ft and then the brakes engaged again. I do think it has to do with the electronic lockout feature not engaging on the trailer when I was trying to reverse. I just do not know how I can fix and avoid this in the future. Nor why it was an issue on my newer Raptor but not on an older F150.

I think we need to know if it is electric or hydraulic brakes on the trailer. Our boat trailer with hydraulic brakes needed another wire added to disable the brakes in reverse. If theyre electronic its probably something to do with the truck or the wiring.

It is an electric lockout system on the brand new 2021 EZ loader trailer. I plan to ask my local Ford dealership about the issue but thought I would check here first.

That may be the “issue”... my trailer came w a straight 5 pin which I put to a 4 pin adapter and ran the 5th to a reverse light. The five pins should be brake, left, right, ground and reverse and the reverse pin isn’t getting the right signal, either pinned wrong or the truck doesn’t have the reverse pin out or it isn’t functioning right.
My case with my gen 1 and the straight 5 it was easiest just to run a separate plug to the reverse lights

It just seems odd to have worked on an older F150 but not on my newer one. I only tried it once so hard to gauge. Had initially worked on my raptor also so who knows. I wasn't sure if this was a known issue so thought I might find an easy answer here. I will check pin slots on trailer plug and see which should be the reverse and try to find a diagram of the raptor 7 pin plug in. That could trouble shoot it for me. Appreciate the help.
