I have a T-Mobile hotspot in the truck via SyncUp device that plugs into the OBD. It has an internal battery and stays on after the truck is turned off. The reception is so-so. I think one of the benefits of the truck’s hotspot is the external antenna. I’m sure it is much better than tethering.

except it is not active after the ignition is turned off. would agree reception is better

Installed Blackvue 4K model
Also mounted V1 using Blendmount attached to rearview mirror. No cords
Ended up velcro LTE Hotspot in Center console and plugged into a Anker Battery Pack 20,000 mAH. Anker is plugged into console cigarette lighter which only stays hot with ignition turned on. The Anker should power the HOTSPOT for days.

Let me know how it works long term. Some of these batteries don’t like to work full time and swell up due to heat.

Have it plugged into Anker and Anker is unplugged from cig plug. Will see how long it takes for Netgear battery and Anker to die.

Its been plugged into Anker since Friday (04/12/19) and I checked this morning (04/15/19) and the Anker has about 55% battery life still left when the HOTSPOT is plugged into it.

At this rate, it should last another couple of days maybe even more.

Location
Pine Bluff, Ar
I use the ATT hotspot in certain areas of Texas where my Verizon phone does not have service. Allows me to receive IMs though the Wifi or make WIFI calls. It is bundled on my son's ATT plan. Pretty handy to have.

Portable HOTSPOT still powered. No issues with Anker getting hot

Check this morning (04/17/19) and the Anker is at 50% charge and the NetGear HOTSPOT shows 100% charged. At this rate, it should stay powered for well over 1 week.

If your dash cam is running 24/7, does it actually save more than a day’s worth of video?

it does save more than 1 day of video but it does this in like 1 min increments. this may also be dependent on how large a MicroSD Card is used. It comes with a 16 GB card but I have been told it can take up to a 128 GB card.

On a side but related note, the blackvue has repeatedly overheated shutting itself off. This is the 2nd blackvue that has been installed thinking the original was defective. I will create a new thread on this problem or see if one already exist.
