The dealer told me the only new thing on the 2019 is wifi hotspot

I’ve never understood this feature. My phone already has network connectivity, and I can also use it as a hot spot. All while not having to pay for another data plan.

If Ford is just copying GM, then whatever (what’s good for the goose...). But I simply can’t see myself paying even $10 extra for wifi in a truck.

Now I'm kind of curious how many people actually use (or think they would use) this feature. I have two small kids who love Netflix/YouTube on their wifi only iPads. Their devices just get tethered to mine without a problem.

The conspiracy theorist in me thinks this could actually be a cost cutting measure by Ford. With cloud connected vehicles, Ford is certainly paying for that bandwidth. If someone buys the wifi hotspot under the guise of a feature, and subsequently attaches a data plan to it, Ford would no longer be responsible for the bandwidth cost.

But if I take off my tinfoil hat, that approach seems less practical as a business case. The amount of data consumed by a cellular radio for statistical analysis/remote management is likely negligible. It's more plausible that Ford is paying for a fleet of vehicles, not per individual vehicle.

Also, I'm way too sober for 9:30pm.

The WiFi is nice in our Yukon Denali for the kids it’s better than using your phone as a hotspot. But hell have to have OnStar $37 a month plus $20 for unlimited data.

There won’t be any changes besides new color probably another shade of gray or blue.

It's $20/month for 30+ GB at LTE - after 30GB delivery slows. I'd pick that $20/month up in a heartbeat to keep my wife/daughter happy in the Starbucks line....
