I have a 2014 Gen1 with 60k miles on it. The truck has never let me down, runs like a top and I have no complaints. I am seeing that dealers are finally willing to deal on the new Gen2 trucks and I’m tempted to get a truck in white vs the black (mine is black).
I’m guessing it would be about a 25k difference in cost between my used one and a new one. My question for the group is would I be better off spending say 10-15k on mods for my Gen1 (upgrading shocks, bigger lighter wheels, more lights, new bumpers, etc) or getting the new truck? Am less worried about resale and more interested in long term enjoyment.

Appreciate your thoughts on this...

I went through this in 2018 and ended up modifying my Gen1. I test drove a new one and didn't see the value for my $30k to $35k to upgrade. I suggest you do the same and decide if it's worth is for you. Considering you want a color change (I did not), that might be enough to sway it towards getting a new one.

If you pull the trigger get a 20 with the extended warranty. Test drive a few, I've heard they're quick and nimble for a big truck.

Also traded a black for a white. Had a 2012 Tux Black, and PTM fender flares and bumpers and black wheels. The thing was truly murdered out, and looked damn sharp. Loved that truck.

Recently traded for a 2019 White, and I have less than no regrets. The color took getting used to, but other than that this thing is superior in every way shape and form to my 12. Just the drivability of it is shocking, I truly sometimes forget I'm even in a truck yet when I need it to be a "truck," it's raring to go.

I feel like whereas my 12 was a "truck" all the time, this one kind of lets me feel like I have a sports car, truck, SUV, and mini-van all in one. It does whatever I want, whenever I want, however I want. The 4A option rocks, btw.

Yep... loved the 12. Don't miss it in the slightest. Take a test drive in a new one, you'll see.

If you love the original, why go to the new models !!! No 6.2 ! " There is no replacement for displacement !!! " Period

No doubt bigger is normally better for power. But the saying is dated unless your comparing NA to NA motors. If you mix in forced induction or nitrous, then size is subjective. Getting deeper you can base it all on the application.

Don’t get me wrong, I like having coffee can sized slugs pushing up and down and raising hell.

My recipe would be: Sync 3 upgrade, 2019+ steering wheel, Whipple stage 2 kit, Kooks headers, Corsa exhaust, Fox 3.0s w/ QAB and DSC, Deaver +3s, +2 Shackles. Maybe add some Icon UCAs and a KHC LCA pocket reinforcement kit w/ slot delete for good measure.

This would make it a completely different truck on and off road. Not a cheap recipe, though, but neither is depreciation on a new truck.

add on a fiberwerx or advfiberglass gen1 to gen2 glass kit, do a repaint white and call it a day. best of everything. gen 2 look, gen1 motor, SC, and beastly suspension... for less than the cost of a production, stock, dime a dozen raptor off the shelf.

Like others have said, you have to be honest and ask yourself ..
  • What do I want from my truck?
  • You have a low mile 14, that you have not modded yet. So do you NEED the mods?
  • Is this your daily, and do you like the creature comforts that the new truck provides?
  • If you kept the Gen 1 what mods are you interested in?
  • BLACK... F@&K Me.. said I wouldn't have one and here I am... May wrap it
I have a modded Roush Gen 1, and while I would love to have the updated interior of the Gen 2, there is nothing else that I want from it. I'm on good suspension with Deaver's and 3.0's. Have 625 HP and running 37's... I absolutely love my truck and will continue to mod it to how I like it and how I play with it off road.

I also like that I hardly see any Gen 1's anymore..
We are in a sea of Gen 2 Raptors here in Texas. On Sunday, my wife and I played the "Count the Raptors" game and was shocked that we were 12:1 on Gen 2 VS Gen 1. And we were only out for about 4 hours!!

Anyway, they are both great trucks, it really comes down to what you do with it, and what you want to have as YOUR truck.

I'm keepin' my Gen 1 till death do us part.......

I think I'm there...death. I have a black 14 Raptor with 100k miles. Did the 100k service earlier this year and just keep sinking more money into it with ticky tak issues. The corner panels are beginning to rust out.

I went to a few different dealers today and test drove a few Gen 2 Raptors. I've been offered $30k for my truck, which I'm ecstatic about. I still can't seem to pull the trigger on a Gen 2. Just like her too much.
