2018 Shelby raptor is it worth it?

Nobody mentioned additional length of the Shelby. I could not justify parking my stock '19 outside. It barely fits behind the garage door as-is. No way a Shelby fits and no way would I put it outside.

I will be the odd man out. I got my 2017 Shelby new for $90,000 and love it. It was a leftover when I got it so I saved on it. Love the truck. Is it that much better than stock, not sure. My previous stock was 2012 Raptor. For me, paying about $10k more for the Shelby was worth it over buying off the lot for standard Raptor. Also, fits in my garage just fine (and no, it is not a monster garage!)

I love the "bling" of the Rigid lighting set up (but then again I put similar on my previous Raptor, but to much less extent). Where I drive it comes in very useful. Is the extra power critical? Not sure, but I am never at a loss for power. Will I trade this in if the V8 Raptor comes out soon, NO.

But hey these are all great trucks, whichever flavor you have. Just enjoy.

I'd move forward with it because you'll likely not see too many in the wild. No regrets on the Roush Raptor that I picked up a few weeks ago.

I am a Shelby car owner, but wouldn’t buy the Shelby Raptor, just lots of add on’s and not really worth the money. To me raptors are about performance and they do very little of that to the trucks. Better products are available for the raptor at half the price to enhance and personalize to make it a better truck overall.

Guess that makes me the SECOND ODD MAN OUT....I'm lovin my Shelby Raptor..but whats not to love,its a 2014 GEN1..! IMHO,I agree with some,and disagree with others...I do agree that the "Shelby Baja" is a little over the top (for me) and like the more stock look as far as bumbers...etc...and who really needs a tire rack in back to drive around town...bling for sure...but if you like and can afford...go for it....What a lot of guys dont know is you can do the "Shelby" face lift on your own...they have many options to choose from and you can add as much bling as you want....they have packages from $20K..& up....Mine just has the "cheapie" upgrade...Whipple Supercharger/Exhaust/Air/Seats/Graphics & Badges..it was the $20K upgrade and sure,there are other ways to go with other "tuners and mod shops....but here is where I disagree...I believe my "original Shelby" is going to hold its value way more that throwing a bunch of aftermarket parts on a Raptor...Is a Shelby Mod expensive,YES...but sometimes I think buying a "Name" can pay off..And as far as performance....you get what you pay for,and as I said,I'm lovin mine and has performed ABOVE my expectations...

Agree that the 2 spares in back is not my cup of tea, but they are easy to remove. The rack and lighting is usable (although perhaps considered unneeded bling by some). Stow away running boards are useful as well (for my purposes).

Aren't most Shelbys throughout history just "add ons", excluding Cobras of course?

I think it is very worth the money IF what it has you like. Like the Fox 3.0? Extra HP and 100lbs of torque? the hood? bumpers and lights? interior - seats, faux carbon, floor mats? power running boards? wheels and new tires? 2 spares? intact warranty?

If you say yes to most then it is probably worth it.

Will it be worth anything just being a Shelby? Who knows but Shelby GLHS and Dakotas are worth a bit more than the ones without the name.

I too have been wrestling with this same problem. To Shelby or not to Shelby? Are there enough items on a Shelby that I wouldn't want to replace? Would I have bought similar parts myself?

Only you can answer that. Don't listen to the "it's just a bunch of parts" people. there are over $25k worth of parts and some amount of $$$ in labor and probably $5k worth of Shelby name, serial badge, R&D, etc. OP - What is it worth to you?

For that kind of coin I’d personally hold out until 2020 as the final year of the Gen 2 is supposed to offer a V8 option...hopefully a supercharged 5.2. That’s my plan at least, I sold my 17’ and currently drive a Platinum 5.0 whipple supercharged putting out 750hp. I’d worry about engine longevity pushing an ecoboost to those levels. I loved my 17’ but sold it do to towing needs. I’ve got to say I was glad to get the V8 sound back and with a supercharger the immediate speed and torque of the ecoboost is there as well. At any rate good luck with your decision, the Shelby is a sweet truck.
