Anybody got insight on how to fix a jammed button that pops out the steps of flatbed door. Ironically I told myself when I first bought truck that this would eventually happen. Way too flimsy. I pushed the button lightly as many times as I could in different spots to hopefully fix it. Sprayed a little silicone around button because I thought maybe spring mechanism inside was rubbing. I unscrewed cover that’s in picture but it doesn’t give access to the button compartment. So I’m stuck at moment.

Also gave it a really firm shove on steps themselves hoping to unjam and then lightly used crow bar to see if that would do anything but no movement there.

Any insight would be appreciated. Couldn’t locate another thread but I’m on phone.

Had to pop off the plastic cover where button is. Did break 3 of I believe 8 things holding it all in. Gave me access to locking mechanism and button. Adjusted it and it popped back out. Where button and lock meet seem to have little room to meet each other and easy to come off track. Doesn’t seem like anything is bent. Just gonna be careful going forward. Pics too large to load. So iCloud link is below with the vid.

If anyone can tell me type of lubrication to use for arms of the steps I’d appreciate it. Both are bone dry after 8 years and difficult to pull in and out. It is gel like but I don’t know anything about lubrication types.

Thanks!

maybe try a lithiun grease. spraybit down with brake or parts cleaner to get the old grease off and then regrease it. good ol gen1s you just lift and pull, no jamming here after 12 years.

Thanks will give it a try. Went to go push button again this morning and it got jammed again. So irritating. The mechanism is cheap plastic that meets the metal lock mechanism and don’t really know what next solution will be. Nothing is bent and nothing is broken.

The metal is intact and functioning I believe as normal. It’s the button that has the plastic lever on bottom of it that is supposed to meet the metal but it keeps popping on top of metal and sliding by it and getting stuck on opposite side.

i see what you are talking about now. its the lever and spring loose? if not, heat gun or a torch is your friend. heat it up and bend it up slightly. hold it after removing heat to let it cool down in the position you want it to be at. the tricky part is to apply heat from the side where the other half of the lever is. you dont want to heat that part up so make sure the flame/heat are pointing to the metal bracket and not heating up the rest of the plastic..... of you even have a clue of what the hell i just said... it sounded right in my head
