Hello all,

Went to a local shop to get a quote to replace a single torn cv boot. Was told it was going to cost around $570… I asked the mechanic if they were replacing the entire axel or just the boot and he said our trucks call for replacing the entire axel for a $20 torn boot… Can anyone verify if this is accurate or does anyone have a part number I can send them? Thanks

To me, That sounds like they just dont want to replace the boot because its annoying, or they dont want to warranty the work since the axle has miles on it. Its hard to stand behind you work when working with used parts, at least if the new full axle they use to replace yours fails, they can go back to the MFG and get a replacement.

HL3Z-3A428-A (right front) 2018 just changed one. Around $200 @ ford dealer oem. Price varied when called around part guy said depends on how long it is sitting on the shelf, so some dealers will discount to move the part. Thoughts on changing just the boot - how long has it been torn & wearing the joint and over all mileage on the axle? Plus if you change just the boots, clamps and grease on both sides there is still labor & parts on an old axle. Should be less labor to just install new. Took me around 2 hours only because the axle was being a little stubborn on releasing. The bolt on the end is cheap, change it too.
