Engine took a dump at 105k miles. Been waiting and thinking on what I should do next.

Just read all the horror stories of RMB. Anyone else besides a factory replacement you guys recommend?

Also, I am planning to send the trans out to be refreshed while I've already got the truck torn down. Any other parts that I should be replacing?
Generally I am thinking of alternator, all hoses, wheel bearings, cv axles. Planning to dump $15k on this truck to make it brand new again.

Any direction or advise I greatly appreciated. I hate working on factory vehicles, but I hate the shop labor rate more.

I went down the same path after my engine blew and honestly wish I did a 5.0 conversion. I did a new long block with a goose tuned 750 kit. It runs great but for a few more nickels I could have a supercharged Coyote.

For the transmission refresh check out sun coast performance. I visited their facility, pretty incredible!

Why did your engine blow? I guess that goes for both lol

Makes me nervous mine is at 86k miles & only issue I’ve had is a tiny crack in a valve cover which I replaced.

I looked at Mountune and a couple others, but in the end decided to just rebuild mine while doing substantial upgrades. Thread here: https://www.fordraptorforum.com/thr...lly-not-ripping-off-geoff’s-2-5-build.105164/

I’m loosely following what @full-race geoff is doing to his Gen 2.5 truck; minus the frame swap of course. Heads are currently at Headgames, and block is at a shop in NH that builds motors for a well known Ford tuner. They’ll be reunited at yet another/third shop to have the long block assembled…basically gonna be a 700+ hp build, that I’ll detune to somewhere ~600hp.

If you just want to stay at ~500 hp or so, a couple FRF members have had very good success with new long blocks direct from Ford, and bolt on upgrades. And at the risk of sounding like a shill, Full Race has an awesome kit that’ll get you close to 700hp on a stock motor.

There are some other piecemeal options out there that I also looked at, but Geoff has put a lot of homework in, and has a well designed kit with parts that actually work well together. I have that kit, plus a lot of other bits currently sitting in my garage waiting for the assembled motor to be finished.

Honestly...

I thought I was going to buy a new engine and blah blah blah...

When my crankshaft did a backflip and broke its fking ankles, I searched and searched for ideas. I went and just did a stock everything and just threw my tune back on. When I did the calculations, I just need to drive to work and home. I occasionally hit the beach and beat up on some v6 camaros and mustangs.

If you rich though, yeah, throw that stroker in there with two garrett twins... lol
