They’re customer service is definitely one of the best in the industry. I’ve never come across a bad light, it’s just been the bolts.You are, I believe, right on both counts. I realized after a buddy did my install that he reversed the brackets on one side. The lights were sunken in on that side. That is in spite of the fact BD tells you in the instructions it doesn't matter which way you put the brackets on. That may be true, but be sure you do both sides the same. When attempting to remove the lights to correct it, the screws immediately stripped; that's how soft the heads of the screws are. And I only had it installed a few months with no off roading at all.
I do have to say that BD customer service was great. I mailed the lights to them and they replaced the housing on them and sent them back with new screws.
But they really need to use better, harder screws.
The brackets are definitely side specific, just looking at them I don’t know how you could install them opposite sides.
