A coworker with a Jeep JK seemed interested. I'll chat him up to see if he can keep up!

He should be able to. A lot of the trails are fast with a few slow areas. Buddy went on about 1/3 of the trails we are going on in a new Jeep GC with air suspension and 20 inch rims. Had to slow for a few rough areas cause he had thin tires but the thing did amazingly well with no trail gear / prep.

I'm pretty much in for this! Just a couple more questions.

For those of us without off road GPS units (lame I know), will printed maps be provided?
I also don't have a VHF radio (seriously, just ban me).. will my Motorola FRS/GMRS be sufficient?
What is the group rate name under for the hotel in Carson City?

@puddle hunter, when you register and pay for the run on Raddrives.com M3dragon will get you all registered for the hotel.

Not sure on whether the moto radio will work or not, but we will have limited handheld VHF's to give out as loaners. You can also get one as well from @treypal on FRF in the classifieds. He has a great price and they come programmed. Just know that you will be able to hear the other trucks but your transmission range is limited to about a mile.

As far as printed maps, thats something we can look into, will be kinda tough to follow some of the turns. However, their are really good GPS apps for Iphone Ipad and Android devices that as long as they have a cell service card, IE the more expensive Ipads, they will work just fine.

Hope some of that helps. The Radio is a must, thats why we have a few loaners, or grab one of Treypal's

Please ask away with the questions.

- Yes printed maps are being made. You should not need them but always good to have a back up. We have a "sweep" so if you get way lost stop and wait for them to find you. If you have a phone or tablet GPS app I will be sending out the files for them. If you need help loading we can do it in the AM. In either case we got you covered. That means the only requirement is the ability to have fun =)

I also don't have a VHF radio (seriously, just ban me).. will my Motorola FRS/GMRS be sufficient?

- Yes but we will be providing loaner radios. Something with a little more power to hear turns. Just make sure to give it back to us at the end =)

- I was able to get $68.00 with tax for the night before (single king none smoking)($80 for dual queens non smoking). I am handling it to make it so you don't have to call. Just select the option on reg page if you want it. I am going up the night before as well as I have a 1 year old in tow.

Also, to add...this trip is easy going, more of an exploration type trip, not a flat our "Raptor" run, since all off-road vehicles are welcome, so we should all be pretty close in proximity, so you shouldn't get lost.

Would MotionX be of any use for this trip, or any others? I don't have the coin to drop on Lowrance or something similar, but I'd rather not fuss with paper maps. Even if the passenger is doing it.

Yes, motion X is fine or any other smart phone / tablet GPS app. I used back country navigator for the longest time and works fine.

I provide you the map files for any GPS device.

Yep, works great. It maybe a little slow in refresh, and if out of cell service, the topography may not load, but the trail and GPS will work. It'll prevent you from getting lost. Also, get a mount or your co-drive will have to hold it the whole time, which is a PITA.

But if you can drop coin, the radios we run are the biggest and best investment and super easy to install. With the installed high power radio, we can communicate and direct you pretty easy and avoid you from getting lost.

We can also program and help install if needed.
