Really wish they would've come out with a small diesel. Looking forward to Ford releasing some real data on this motor.

You guys are looking at this all wrong! The amount of power that little LIGHT WEIGHT engine is pushing out compared to the weight of the truck since it Isn't stuffed with a huge heavy ass engine is pretty damn good to me! I don't know if you guys have seen the new gmc canyon but it will have a diesel option in 2016 I know I know this isn't gmc BUT maybe this will get ford thinking about a diesel in the raptor or f150 models you never know!

I heard they were looking at either small diesel or Ecoboost and the Ecoboost was seen as more economical over diesel. I don't know if I believe that or not, but I would love to have a diesel Raptor.

Ford bet the farm on turbo. GM went with DI.

That is all. This is old news happenned years ago...

Both have unique issues---personally the DI motor is the way to go in a truck imho. There is no replacement for displacement.........

I'm a fan of DI as well. My Dad has a Lexus GS350 that is DI and it has more power than the V8 it replaced and better fuel economy. Maybe we'll see a DI 5.0 in the future? I don't know if that's possible or not...anyone on here can say whether or not adding DI to the 5.0 would be feasible?

For Ford no it is not in the cards. They went Turbo---if they change to DI now it will kill the current stuff and really resale of the older stuff. Turbo is what Ford spent all of the $$$$$ in R&D on. They went old school rather than the latest technology and take the chances with software, new cyl head designs etc..

Um, the new 2.3L mustang turbo is a GTDI
The Mustang EcoBoost engine uses direct injection, variable cam timing and turbocharging to deliver plenty of usable performance and projected segment-leading fuel efficiency. A unique intake manifold and turbocharger housing enable it to deliver the performance Mustang drivers expect with output projected at more than 305 horsepower and 300 lb.-ft. of torque.

Very nice indeed. Have not looked at the mustang. That is indeed interesting. Kind of like the Audi we have DI and turbo! If Ford would do that combo it would be interesting... Going to have to look at that engine--might just mean that if Ford was to introduce an "new" 5.0 as a DI with a turbo it might be around 450 475.
